Need some Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion help

I have started the Mage quests and am currently doing the Chorrol one. My main character is a Male Argonian Thief and I have a couple of questions about this quest.
1: It says in the strategy book that a shock spell is required for a certain section of this quest. I am currently still in the novice section of Destructive magick and I have a LONG way to go since I usually use my bow instead of magick/blade attacks.
I currently have in my posession a shocking touch scroll, will that work instead? Or do I have to continue to work up to apprentice level to beat this challenge? The guide said that Althagar would have a shock spell/scroll for sale but he didn't.  I did have a shock scroll in my inventory, but I used it a couple of days back. 
Can anybody help me out?

The scroll should work fine.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion is a good resource when the game guide runs out of help.

Getting the Fingers of the Mountain spell isn't a requirement to get the Chorrol recommendation. All you need to do is give the book to the Argonian in the Guild. You don't need to bother with the woman.

it is also pointless to do to give the woman the book because when you get fingers of the mountain it as a spell is a really high level, so you won't even be able to use it until you level magika up to its level.
