I started playing this last night and so far it's a blast.

If you're familiar with the first one it's mostly the same game with a few minor enhancements - the camera controls being one.

The dark humour is still there and makes the game all the more enjoyable. My minions were all on wolf mounts at one point, and they all started singing Ring a-ring o' roses in unison. laugh

The game starts with you as a child overlord, and goes through a tutorial where you smash up the local village, destroy an entire imperial legion and go into hiding until you become old enough to take over the world.

I also saw there are co-op, split screen and multiplayer modes. I've not tried any yet, but the split screen looks fun.

Even if you never played the original, it's worth checking the demo out at least!

I was considering giving this a try before. Now I have to.

I actually saw this in Blockbuster and thought it looked pretty stupid, but I think I might get it now.

It's probably not everyone's cup of tea, the dark humour is very British, and the setting is kinda like what Sauron would be like if he lived in the world of Labyrinth. tongue

The different types of minions are fun to mix up. So far I've only unlocked the browns (quick, infantry type) and reds (weak, fire throwers), still have the blues and greens to go.

Loved the first game, but noticed the demo controls/movement seems a bit...sluggish...somehow. Enough so we decided to get Ghostbusters first and come back for Overlord II later. How do the controls/responsiveness for the actual game feel compared to the original?

I haven't played the first one in a loooong time, so I can't tell if the controls feel any different.

It plays fine for me though, I haven't had any issues with using the same right stick to control the camera and my minions. thinking The demo plays the same, so if you're not enjoying it there then probably best to skip it or rent it.

Well, we love the original and we've decided Blockbuster is the Devil...and I highly doubt we'll be skipping it...
Oh well, guess the hubby and I will just have to get it anyway. tongue

The controls (for us) weren't totally unworkable...just seemed a little "off" (like the new Overlord isn't moving fast enough by just a hair, or the minion control/reaction isn't quite right) after playing so much of the original game just before the demo came out. (And that's probably the key to the issue right there...we were playing a bunch of the original game in preparation to playing the sequel.)

Of course, I know they tweaked the minion behavior. And even in the original game, the Overlord always started off feeling sluggish since he's not intended to be dainty on his feet. I mean, honestly, I don't see it as a game breaker but rather an "adjustment curve". tongue

Yeah, once the game gets going you soon forget about the controls, it's just fun watching and listening to the minions go about their business. I love how they all have names and can level up, but I keep losing the higher level ones. sad

It's great to see them all kitted out in Roman armour and weapons though, and the wolf mounts are awesome.

*Gasp* they have a second one?

Awesome! Must have! Overlord is a great game. I liked how I was sort of unable to predict what the next missions would be and the sense of progress through the game.

I just rented this last night. I was unimpressed, but I guess I'll give it another go before I stop playing for good.

The preview from it was funny.

Finally got the game, and the DLC Thursday night.

Yes, there's DLC, Battle Rock. No achievements, but its set up similar to the dungeon in the first game, and you have the opportunity to unlock new weapons for your Overlord.

Maulfly has played it more than I have, but we're both loving the game so far.

Yeah I noticed you guys were playing it over Xbox Live. grin

Sadly I've been neglecting it a bit, so many games to play. And it's supposed to be the mid-year dry period.

Yeah -- this game is a great polishing of the original. I love that Good/Evil has been thrown out in favour of Domination/Destruction. (Though I'm sad that your alignment has no affect on who is revealed as your mother)

I still have no idea what all those "good" options were doing in the first game. Bleh.

My only criticism is that the game has multiplayer achievements. Urg. sick

This is an imaginary story... aren't they all supposed to fit together, though?
