You can download both these ships for XWA (as well as a lot of others) from
Darksaber's Opt Station
Republic TIE:
Not stricly speaking an Imperial starfighter.
According to Darksaber's site:
"The Republic TIE, is one of the oldest serving craft from Sienar Fleet Systems, used by the Old Republic it first saw service during the Clone Wars.
Armed only with 2 medium class lasers and lacking shields its agility made up for its weakness. The Republic TIE was often deployed in overwhelming numbers to compensate for its weakness.
After the Wars, production of the Republic TIE was brought to a halt, due to the takeover of Sienar Fleet Systems by the Empire and the introduction of faster craft.
In later year the Republic TIE, now an old craft can still be found in small numbers in remote Outer Rim Sectors, used by pirate clans."
I like it as it provides a link between Ep1/2/3 craft and Ep4/5/6 craft, which previously looked too different. I think it may feature in Ep2/3 as it is a Clone Wars era ship.
TIE Clutch:
Again not stricly speaking an Imperial starfighter..
According to Darksaber's site:
"Pirate forces in I, Jedi use TIE-based fighters with a threefold wing symmetry. They are nicknamed "tri-fighters". or "clutches" for the way in which the wings resemble a hand clutching the cockpit ball. The "tri-fighters" possess minimal shields.
The novel indicates that they're customised fighters, though it is not clear what the extent of the customisation is. They could be full-blown uglies, but their resemblance to the TIE Phantom and Sentinel may mean that the hull and wings are original, with the modifications being of a minor nature.
Weaponry for the Clutch consists of two laser cannons on the end of lower wings and one ion cannons on the end of the upper wing."
I figure they're most likely cheaply made from TIE Defender parts.
So that's that cleared up. Any questions? I'm nerd enough to be able answer any other TIE questions anyone has.

Odd that people are voting for the TIE Defender, the one ship designed beacause the Imperial Navy wanted a ship with (and this quote may not be wordperfect) "shields and a hyperdrive, in short, a ship just like a rebel ship".

Yes, the polls are irritating like that. I meant to vote TIE Interceptor, but voted instead for Vader's TIE. Which is my second favourite.

I voted for sheer coolness and design. TIE Interceptors in my opinion are just all-around classics.

Xm-1 Missile Boat. Not the best dogfighter (for that I prefer the TIE Defender), but if you want to put in some serious hurtin' on cap ships and still have some standoff fighter-killing power as well as an overdrive that can make all the other guys eat your ion trail, there is only One.

30 heavy rockets and 40 advanced concussion missiles. Now that is fun.

TIE Defender is my favorite for several reasons. Its the fastest fighter out there(without a SLAM dirve), VERY maneuverable, it has a very nice array of weapons(4 laser cannons, 2 ion cannons, and warhead launchers), and the shields and hyperdrive is nice to have. But if I'm going up against a bunch of capital ships I would go with the Missile Boat(the SLAM is awesome and so is its warhead load).

I like both the Defender and the Missile boat. But I think I find the Interceptor much more fun.
|o| <-- TIE
(o) <-- Republic TIE
Interesting to see the Interceptor winning now. Clearly either more people who dont have the games are voting, or people who are REALLY into the game, and don't feel the need for shields (like me).

If I ever get XWA and play somebody head to head online, I'd just like to load up an Xm-1 with Advanced Missiles and flip them all off at the other guy
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Incoming Missile!
Inc . . .
BOOM!
Wonder if I'd get all 40 off before I killed him?
But a TIE Defender is still the ultimate dogfighter. I let eight of them loose on some TIE Avengers/Interceptors/Fighters/Bombers and some Gunboats while my four Xm-1s attacked some ISDs. There wasn't much left for us afterwards
