With a TOR Encyclopedia coming out, quite a few TOR characters might be better answered in that book. Really, the only characters possibly seen in the Guide from TOR are the Sith Emperor, Satele Shan and maybe Lord Scourge. Thats just my view, I would love more elaboration on characters such as Soa but if one guide is coming out that can tackle that than maybe exclude them from an Essential Guide to Characters so it can focus on others in the EU.

For me, I would love to see entries on characters introduced that have no visual representation before in guide format. So, people like Onimi, Lomi Plo, Formbi, Abeloth, Nek Bw'uata (sp?), Kre'fey are some I would like to see.

You know what might be cooler, or easier to implement, then a Third Edition Essential Guide to Characters?

Something more akin to Marvel Handbooks. Like this one, the first Handbook from 1983, covering "Abomination" to "Avengers Quinjet", plus special profiles on alien species (Aakon to Autocron) and an appendix (Adaptoid to Avalanche).

These are comics, which each explore several character profiles. With 32 pages, you could do 32 full-page profiles easily. The text tends to be small print on these, so you could fit all the relevant information. You could also do several smaller entries on a single one or two page spread in case of teams (in the link above, there are spreads for Alpha Flight, Asgardians, Atlanteans, and Avengers.)

After however many issues, they could be collected as TPBs or omnibuses. For example, Marvel recently released the fifteen issues of Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe as a single black-and-white omnibus called "Essential Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe". Subsequent editions of the comic were further collected in the two-volume "Essential Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe - Deluxe Edition", one-volume "Essential Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe - '89 Update" and three-volume "Essential Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe - Master Edition".

I know this probably wouldn't be possible for Star Wars, being that this is a Del Rey published book at comics are done by Dark Horse, but this technique allows more entries, more flexibility, at lower cost to produce I assume, and give more flexibility to the purchaser. What if, for example, instead of being alphabetical, it went by another grouping? "Official Character Guide to Star Wars #1: Jedi of the Old Republic", "#2: Bounty Hunters", "#3: Sith", etc. If I don't care about OR Jedi, then I don't need to buy the issue.

    Anyways, that's my two cents.

Leonia Tavira would be nice, with a new pic and maybe a hint on what she has been up to.

Dark Horse sort of did this, with the Dark Empire/Rogue Squadron/Crimson Empire handbooks (which were mostly post-series, rather than the #0 'introductory' issues like for Legacy and Dawn of the Jedi).

They had cool little facts, like the breakdown on what each councilor on the IRC represented, for instance.

In my defense, I wasn't expecting Karpyshyn to be involved.

Oh, and while I'm here - Dan, I hereby officially petition you to use this book to make the Mayor of Sernpidal a Fett clone. You've got so many to choose from!

I'd like to see some resolution for Nelani Dinn.

And didn't Vestara get away with killing some Jedi for Ben too?

Like if the Jedi ever investigated her death after they learned the truth about Jacen, if they ever found out Jacen was responsible, if Ben ever recovered his memories, stuff like that.

Another idea for the 3rd EGTC. How about each entry has a quote by the character? And, to make it way more awesome, it has to be a non-movie quote and ideally a new one all together. Something that sets the frame for the character and provides some insights into his or her personality or beliefs.

In other words, no "It's a trap" or "Never tell me the odds" or "I am your father" stuff.

And Droids. Though I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea.
