True - I would support two nuns or two monks getting married because of the legal benefits, and presuming that they are right-believing, they would not be having sex.

Same reason I support adoption by same sex couples. Let's say me and my brother lived together and wanted to adopt - I think that should be legal too. I don't think we can refuse people adoption because of the gender of the people wanting to adopt or their sexual behaviors, even if I disagree with them personally.

    Moral responsibility to society?
As far as I'm concerned, that means being a good, productive person, and maintaining a code of ethics.
It does not mean that you get to dictate/inflict your code onto others.
Saying that two people can't marry is very close to saying who they must marry (or limiting the options).
Unless you are directly involved in the situation, it is none of your business.

Some people choose to believe there is an invisible man that lives in the clouds, with 10 supreme rules (full of redundancy and contradiction) that everyone is supposed to live by. Others choose to believe that there is a giant plate of noodles smeared with tomato and cow meat-based garnish.
So when it comes to society being ridiculous, I think religion has anything the "secular" world has beat.

it must be really awesome to live in a bubble where you aren't affected by and therefore can't be fussed over the outcomes of critical social issues that will drastically affect the lives of millions of minorities. go you.

I fully support same-sex marriage. If something isn't harming anyone and is between consenting adults, it's no one else's business. And gay couples should get the same rights as everyone else.

100% in support of it, they have the right to be just as miserable as any other married person. :p

Question to those who think the government should not be involved in marriage of any kind (not to argue, just to understand). How would you then ensure marital rights? If the government isn't involved on some level who is going to enforce your rights in regards to medical council, burial, inheritance, property, etc?

This goes for same sex and opposite sex marriages.

All too often we hear stories about parents or family disregarding a person's partner when it comes to these things, if government isn't there to ensure that the married couple's rights are not infringed upon how do you enforce it?

Rogue, you must accept that she "disagrees" with two adults loving each other and entering into a contract that allows them legal benefits such as visitation rights and spousal insurance coverage. It's icky, that's why.

I haven't seen a reason for not supporting same-sex marriage that wasn't either easily disproven due to its level of hysteria (ZOMG they'll make my church marry da queers!) or easily disproven via logic (oh, marriage is for reproduction? So that's why they require a fertility test before issuing marriage licenses and won't issue them to old people...oh, wait...)

"I don't agree with it" isn't a reason for banning anything. I don't agree with watching reality TV or smothering scrambled eggs with ketchup, but neither should be outlawed.

    This.

But I fully support the right of all ketchup-eaters to smother their scrambled eggs in ketchup.

Just don't do it in front of me, because I think it's icky.
