I thought the marketplace decided with the first movie. They made another one? With different actors in the same roles? [face_rofl]

If I remember the details of the contracts for this sucker, they literally don't have a choice - they have to make three films so that they included the complete, unabridged speech near the end.

You might say it was an objectively bad deal.

Is the sequel the one where it turns out they are actually using & benefitting from the government programs they like to bash and so are actually just a bunch of hypocrites?

According to the crowd who actually likes this movie, "the marketplace" didn't decide. The liberal media bashed the movie/didn't promote the movie and therefore no one went to see it.

I already saw this. It starred Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle and Garry Shandling.

They used the Christopher Nolan Inception BAWM BAWM BAWM in the trailer!

OMG! I NEED TO SEE THIS!

    EDIT -- Wait. Wait.

That was the reason I went to see Transformers 3.

DAMN YOU CHRISTOPHER BAWM BAWM NOLAN!

Part of me wants to see a society attempt this Objectivism stuff, just to prove it won't actually work which is exactly the reason nobody does it.

Me: Welcome to booktastic©megastore! How can I help you?
Customer: I'm lookin' for Atlas Shrugged and Mein Kempf. But with the big letters.
Me: The large print editions of those titles are currently unavailable, but here's what we do have.
Customer: Oh my, that sure is a big ole book! How many pages is that….?

It's a shame Ditko is such a recluse and doesn't do interviews, he might make a better case for Objetivism than someone like Peter Schiff who is one of its public faces.

Pfft. Nobody would want to talk to Ditko about Objectivism, when there many more pressing issues they'd want him to address.

And they would need to keep a defibrillator on hand, because if having Spidey making a deal with the devil doesn't give him a heart attack, then Peter killing Mary Jane with his radioactive spider-semen will.

We had 5 showings today and didn't have more than 10 people in any given one. But you could pick out the people who were going to see it, they were all wearing fur coats and over the age of 65.

Strange, given the supposed rise in popularity of Rand amongst the young (and idolisation afforded to her by the far right) I would have thought turnout for such a movie would be higher regardless of the quality. I suppose her books might be more engaging than an average movie, but the message is the important thing with Rand's works not the stories.

It's the Capitalist Animal Farm, only Rand clearly wasn't half the author Orwell was.
And Orwell at least had the sense to give his book the subtitle "A Fairy Story" so as to highlight the fact it is a work of fiction, something readers of Rand's work tend to forget.

This American paranoia of government amuses me. All governments are in varying degrees bought and manipulated by the rich and powerful, the resulting titans of capitalism. This is especially easy to see in American politics, and yet so many people misdirect their anxiety and anger at what is essentially just the middleman in the big scheme of things. The moneyed interests behind the politicians and the government are who pull the strings. This is not to bash capitalism, just to encourage a more nuanced view.

Even tyrants surround themselves with, and are indeed held up by, benefactors who would yank the king of the hill right down from his pedestal if it didn't suit them any longer. When you see it that way, you realize that the public symbol of power that all the anger of the masses is directed at, "the great dictator", he's just the fall guy. I suspect many of the world's current and long gone autocrats have been, and are, all too aware of this themselves too.

    THIS FALL:

    MORE BAD ARISTOTELIANISM

MORE LIBERTARIANISM THAT INEXPLICABLY ISN'T LIBERTARIANISM OR SOMETHING

    AND 100% MORE ACTION!

The third blockbuster installment in the film series that changed literally no one's minds about anything - Atlas Shrugged 3D: Tokyo Drift!

On September 12, don't bother asking who John Galt is... because he already kicked your ass.
