Apparently Whitey's relationship has gone right down the tubes and he wants to dump his boyfriend, but he won't do it unless the JC strokes his ego and unless we text him enough vacuous top 40 lyrics. So in this thread everyone tell Whitey to dump his boyfriend of like 3 years with whom he his shacking up and go after the new hot young thing he wants to pursue.

Apparently the oh-so-subtle "I'm not good for you, I just drag you down" approach does not work.

 

That never works... that's what people say when they're trying to get a specific response from somebody. It's more of a cue/prime than a conversation. Speak English when you have this conversation... not in loaded boyfriend cliches.

How about this: dump him and go for the young rebound before he dumps you and goes for the young rebound.

 

You could try....alternate approaches.

 

Why not just say outright "Look, I don't love you anymore, I've fallen for somebody else." Blunt, quick and too the point.

I know very little about this relationship and I don't think it's any of my business, but I agree with Dani because I'm kind of scared of her.

 

The best way to respect the four years you've spent together would be to keep those memories, have no regrets, and move on. Dragging it out when the relationship is over just tarnishes the good you got out of the relationship.

It'll hurt, true and I'm not even saying it would be the best possible way ever to handle this. But I think your partner would in the long run, rather have the blunt honesty, than dragging this out with the 'subtle' hints.

 

Yeah, but tact and class are admirable traits. You can break up with somebody without being inconsiderate.

Have you tried telling him you need some space? That you need to explore the world out there as an individual and all that other cliche stuff they say to say to avoid hurting someone's feelings. I know is not the best way either because someone always ends up hurt in a break up.

Or you could do things in reverse order, hook up with the hot new POA, and have the current BF "accidentally" walk in on you.
