I haven't played 3 yet, but I want to run through 2 and see if can get everyone through without dying. Have any of you gotten all the character through the whole game in 2?

Every time. It's not that difficult, provided you had a handy-dandy reference guide: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Suicide_Mission#Suicide_Mission

As far as I know, it doesn't depend on anything. You can always do the LotSB Liara romance if you romanced her in ME1, as long as you express continued interest. Then, as soon as you've done that, you can immediately invite your ME2 love interest up to your cabin as if nothing happened.

That was my experience on a post-Suicide Run playthrough, anyway. Maybe it differs if you do LotSB beforehand?

    Very sad about this. :(

In other news, I just obtained my final achievement in ME2! That's the first game I maxed out all the achievements on. :p

But, I think I will miss Mordin's singing in ME2. :( I don't know how I messed it up, but I think I did. Someone told me that even if I miss the singing dialogue, if I get all of Mordin's conversations, he will still sing in ME3. I hope that's true.

It's pretty easy to get everyone out alive, imo. I've heard from a couple of people who went through it the first time without any guides, and I think they only lost two people at most. And for the record, everone survived in my first runthrough. With no guides at all. :p

Basically, if you get all the upgrades from your squad members for the Normandy, check with Joker that you've got them all, and have done all the loyalty missions for your squad members...PLUS, I would say, choosing appropriate people for the various tasks in the final mission, everyone will survive.

Aye. So boring I didn't even bother with the sidequests there in the last Renegade playthrough.

Haha, I can see why you think that, but I think that the Thorian and crazed colonists battle bits were fun! Plus, the colony sidequests (food, water, power) were really easy to get.

I beat ME2 for the 4th time today! [face_dancing] Was also the first time I romanced Garrrrrrrrrus. ME2's endgame has to be one of the most awesome and epic endings to a video game that I've ever played.

The ME2 endgame is hard to beat (and I think it's a main reason why ME3 got so much flak - everyone was expecting it to be topped). Start to finish, you have that dogfight on the way to the station where Joker is jinking the Normandy around like she's the Falcon, Shepard gets the classic Kirk-esque "Fire the main gun!" line (really made me wish there was a captain's chair on the bridge), and then the mission itself complete with a couple good space opera battle speeches followed by the most epic ending cutscene in the series.

My personal favorite kill on the final boss was on my second soldier playthrough. That was the first time after I'd figured out that it's easier to hit the chest weak point on its second pass, so on the first one I saved the Cain and instead emptied a full clip of tungsten ammo from my M-76 Revenant into various weak points. That chewed off almost half its health; then when it came up again I punched it right in the heart with the Cain. Final insult? Two pistol shots on adrenaline rush. It's just plain fun when you finish off a giant Terminator with a freaking handgun [face_skull]

It's weird because I actually thought that the ME2 endgame was one of the easier parts of ME2. I actually thought that Horizon, for some reason, was tougher on Hardcore and Insanity than the endgame. Throughout the entire game, I died countless times and used medigel until I ran out...but on the endgame, I don't remember ever dying or using medigel once.

Horizon probably is tougher; the only parts of the Suicide Mission that give me real trouble are the battle with the Oculus and that final husk mass attack on the Long Walk. The area your biotic specialist stops in there doesn't have enough cover for the whole team and I usually have a squadmate or two knocked out by the scion. Tech armor, shockwave, and area pull/throw are godsends there.

Then again, normal difficulty is pretty much what I stick to. I just hold myself to a higher standard of not getting hit - in ME2 and ME3 I try to reserve medigel for the most dire situations, and in ME3 I try not to take any health damage whatsoever. That usually nets me some extra creds and XP that go to good use.

I was never an achievement whore until recently. I always played on Easy or Casual until I decided to *gasp* play Normal on Mass Effect 2. Then I realized there were achievements for Hardcore and Insanity and tried Hardcore, which in turn made me realize that some of these achievements weren't that unobtainable as I originally thought. (Except for perhaps the first Mass Effect, where the achievements are unreal...4 playthroughs MINIMUM to get all the achievements?!)

I guess I've always been sensitive of the fact that I might not be considered "good" at gaming and so I thought that I can do the hardest difficulty and prove myself, then no one can really take that bragging right away from me. I only the harder difficulties for the achievements and to say that I've done them. On my recent playthroughs of ME2 and ME3 though...casual all the way... :p

    *flaunts his complete achievement list*

Seriously though, Insanity is a pain, but it isn't impossible. You'll simply learn to appreciate cover and proper squad usage more, though.

Yeah, sometimes I have gone out of my way for achievements ... I didn't get Brawler in ME2 until my vanguard playthrough because generally I prefer to shoot rather than punch (although it was satisfying to charge into a barrier-stripped Harbinger, sock him in the face, and then unload a few incendiary shotgun shells). Same thing with the Tactician achievement. I never bothered getting the various ally and power achievements in ME1; I probably would have racked up a few if the game's memory hadn't gone Dory on me.

Merciless and Headhunter though - I think I hit those before my first ME2 character left Omega. It reminded me of the Ben Thompson's great profile of Shep on Badass of the Week - "Everyone this guy meets either dies painfully in a fire or gets naked and dances for him ..."

Ugh, you have all of the achievements for ME1? Grr. I think I need at least two more playthroughs. [face_sigh]

Yeah, when I started playing Hardcore on ME2 I soon realized how valuable abilities like Overload and Warp were. I played as a Sentinel, which comes with both, and then I always had Miranda and either Thane, Garrus, or Mordin on my team. I finally learned how to cover too! :p

Cover was pretty much Lesson 1 for me. I like to bunker down behind something and pop out to shoot or fire off powers. Even in areas like the missile battery fight in ME3, I try to find a defensible spot and hold it until it looks like I'm going to be overrun. Overall I tend to use a lot of fire-and-maneuver tactics with my squad, trying to get everyone in cover with good lines of sight and then advancing under covering fire from one or two squadmates. It's typically pretty effective.

Feros would be so much more tolerable if the melee button wasn't the same as the shoot button in ME1. Uggh

    ?

What system are you playing on? On Xbox, melee is B and shoot is the right trigger...

Yeah, that's how it is on my PC. I might be able to change it, but so far I haven't bothered. You just have to run right up to the colonists and hit them. Or do like I do and try to get all five grenade capacity upgrades first to give you plenty of chances to knock them out with anti-thorian gas.

I can't even describe how loud my system was when I played the Suicide Mission for the first time. I bet my neighbors could, though :D.

Um. Weird. Not on my Xbox. It feels more natural to me to shoot from right trigger. Perhaps you should change your controller settings.

Yeah, to make sure I use a melee instead of a gunshot I generally wait until I'm pushing up against the target. Obviously this is not good for certain classes - my engineer got killed several times. Soldiers, vanguards, infiltrators, and sentinels have it a bit easier.

Actually, I didn't try it last time around, but I was wondering if sabotage would help - that would be great for disabling the colonists' guns, but I'm afraid given how weak they are the weapon backfire would kill them.
