Shadow Hunter is one of my most favorite books ever. A chase through the Coruscant under city, what's not to like?

I'd like more Force empathy, Force bonds, Jedi investigators, mystery stories, starfighter pilot tales (especially if we get a story from the perspective of a Y-wing pilot! That craft is criminally underrated given how rugged it is and how much abuse it can dish out, and especially as an iconic film ship- I've never understood the hate it gets. It's a wonderful design, it's not really fast, but it doesn't have to be, really. It can take and dish out a buttload of abuse, and its pilots are tenacious befitting the craft), more on the galaxy's seedy underbelly- not necessarily smugglers or Hutts, but things like mercenaries or pirates, which are usually sidelined for the aforementioned smugglers or Hutts.

And I know The New Rebellion gets tons of hate, but one thing I loved about it was Cole Fardreamer. I'd like more stories with protagonists, even side ones, like that guy. Not a Jedi, or a Princess, or a smuggler, or a soldier, but someone who manages to be a hero nonetheless. The average Joe getting to do something amazing to help the big names every now and again is a great message.

And I'd also love to see a lot more of the obscure Force stuff. Battle meditation (the NJO has a specialist in this yet she's never played a major role in any big conflict? What the hey?), things like that from Tales of the Jedi. And more characters from obscure races.

Again, some stories with non-Force-sensitives as the forte would be great. I loved the X-wing novels, even though the protagonist of the first half ended up being Force-sensitive and all, but that wasn't the focus of the series. I'd love more looks at facets of the universe like that. Hey, why not a story starring a Rebel trooper? Just an average ground pounder in one of those black and white clamshell helmets? Average idealistic Joe Antilles out to take on the Empire. That'd be great.

Also, I want more Ewoks, Gungans, and Hoojibs. I'm a fan of the more whimsical stuff.

You've clearly not been forced to fly them in the X-wing/Rogue games. They're certainly good at their job -- taking out things that are big and/or slow -- but that's about all they can do well. They're too slow and clumsy to do well in a dogfight, the laser cannons are horribly positioned, and the cockpit visibility is absolutely hopeless.

As a matter of fact, I have. I own all three Rogue Squadron games, and used to play X-wing to death before that computer died (I no longer have one that can run it sadly).

It's still one of my favorite fighter designs, and I still stand by my statement that it is vastly underrated. Yes, it's slow and clumsy, yes, it's not the perfect dogfighting craft. But you know what? Not every ship is a dogfighter.

The Y-wing is far superior at disabling craft and destroying large objects than the original Rebel X-wings. With its heavier load of proton torpedoes and you know actually having ion cannons.

Think of it more as a bomber than a fighter, really. It is a rugged, hard-hitting craft that can take a beating, and does what it does very well. You want a dogfighter, yes you're looking in the wrong direction- but if you want to disable a craft without extensive damage, or you want to blow up an Imperial base, well, the Y-wing is probably better than those fancier dogfighting craft (don't get me wrong- I love the X-wing more than anything, but the Y-wing also has a special place in my heart- and my Kenner Y-wing has a special place on my shelf, along with my Hasbro X-wing). But this was the workhorse of the Rebellion, the most numerous fighter-scale craft they had. I'd love to see this thing get more love.

    I stand by my statement.

I agree; a Y-Wing story would be great. The Rogue and Wraith books treat them like a little brother; protective of them, but also critical of them. It's basically the A-10 Warthog of Star Wars.

Little brothers that they loved to pick on. I stand by my reasons for thoroughly disliking them. You can keep your extra torpedoes and heavier shields, and I’ll keep my ability to change direction. :p

Anyway, this little sidetrack has reminded me of something that I wish was explored more: Imperial pilots. They tend to get treated as faceless mooks almost on the same scale as the stormtroopers, and since the stormtroopers have gotten a few attempts at fleshing them out I think it's only fair the TIE pilots get the same. Maybe even an inverted X-wing series focusing on Soontir and the 181st.

A TIE Fighter series, written by Stackpole & Allston, covering the events of the game and beyond, maybe?

Could be interesting getting Kam and Ranik Solusar's story fleshed out. A chance to have the backdrop of Dark Empire without just copying the comic.

In general just more stories on other Jedi in the New Jedi Order. I'm talking Jedi dealing with individual missions that don't involve some galactic crisis. I thought that novel on Zekk would've been a good start.

More stories or novels of Nuso Esva and/or more conflicts with Thrawn vs.Esva by Tim Zahn. Either a sequel to Choices of One or a prequel to CoO.

And more novels of the Unknown Regions and the Empire of the Hand by Tim Zahn either Pre or Post-NJO. The ressurection of the EotH perhaps in a possible Skywalker family book by Zahn. How about the history of the UR perhaps another basis for the Skywalker family novel a la Millennium Falcon was for the Solo family adventure novel.

Agreed. After about 12-14 ABY in the timeline all the major source materials are just Galactic Crisis of the Week kind of stuff. Very little in the way of stuff like what you describe. I'd love to see that. The Galactic Crisis of the Week stuff is incredibly unappealing to me.

More stories about Talon Karrde and how he got started with Jorj Car'das. Back to the Y-Wing: yeah, they're ugly and slow, but when you "absolutely, postively, have to kill every Star Destroyer in the sector..." (My apologies for the bad Sam Jackson paraphrase).

The A-Wing pilots seem just as critical of the X-Wing - just normal rivalry!

Exactly. I personally first really noticed it during the Dark Nest Crisis. We'd just gone through the Vong War, perhaps the biggest and most devastating war in Star Wars history, and now they were talking about some new galactic crisis. And what really got me was that everyone in story was acting as if it was going to be as devastating as the Vong War, and I assume this was to make readers put it on the same level and realize how serious things were. (Han outright worried about his kids having to go through it, Jacen saw a never ending war without end, etc.)

I had a very very hard time caring about it after the major event that was the NJO series. Its like they were trying to throw us into something new that was on the same scale, and it really isn't wanted or needed. Its like the case with comic books. As soon as one event ends, a new one begins. Its like they can't just tell a normal story anymore. It always has to be some big thing. After a major war, there needs to be time spent on rebuilding. Specifically we should see some rebuilding going on. In the Darth Bane Trilogy, after the Battle of Ruusan the Chancellor at the time talked with Farfalla (Think that spelling's wrong) about the need to rebuild and put war measures aside, etc. I want to see some of that, along with some average missions. Because when every new novel has a galaxy on the verge of collapse from a new enemy, it gets to the point where that enemy loses impact and the readers just don't care anymore.

Well DNT started off when Han and Leia helping the Ithorians look for a planet and when they found a planet, the Killiks had to go there to avoid war with the Chiss.

I know lol it was also mentioned that the other former Young Jedi Knights had been working hard doing normal Jedi stuff for the 5 years Jacen was gone, but he was being given preference over them. What I wanted to see then were those 5 years of regular missions, the GA getting things in order, etc. Its just that there are so many story opportunities missed in favor of some huge crisis. Makes me really sad.

I'd like a story about Mandalore during the Yuuzhan Vong War, or a book that focuses on Goran Beviin and his family.

Also cool would be a book focusing on a normal Force-sensitives' life during either the New Republic or Galactic Alliance. He or she would have no training and wouldn't find out until the end of the book about his/her potential, when a Jedi would approach them and offer training. The book would highlight how the Force shaped their life or helped make their decisions or was like a 'sixth sense' for them. In Imperial Commando: 501st, former Jedi Bardan Jusik told a fellow Mando that if a person didn't have training they would become a professional athlete, gambler, or pilot.

I have a feeling that the 'Ten Knights' from the end of FotJ: Apocalypse was a set-up for a new series of books. It would be real cool if the series was written like George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones, with each chapter having a different perspective. Plus, the Ten Knights' journeys would be a chance for the EU to expand into areas of the galaxy that haven't been explored in any of the previous books.
