go watch Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call: New Orleans (2009).
It shows a bat-**** crazy, drug induced, sleep-deprived bad cop Cage.
I don't there are many other actors out there who could have filled said role better than him.

nicolas cage stars in a film where he runs a pet shelter and takes in abused dogs and nurses them back to health and teaches them to love once more and along the way he meets the woman of his dreams who just so happens to run an underground s&m torture club and in the end he has to choose between her and the dogs

 

okay so say nicolas cage is the chief food safety inspector at a planters dry roasted peanut factory and one day a tainted batch of peanuts slips through unnoticed and a bunch of people die and their families sue him and he is defended in court by a lawyer who has never lost a case and he sure as hell isn't going to lose this one
