    Rene Magritte

    Edvard Munch

    Claude Monet

Marcel Duchamp (maybe he counts . . . maybe he doesn't)

    Giocoma Balla
    [IMG]

    Caravaggio
    [IMG]

    Henri Matisse
    [IMG]

    Mark Rothko
    [IMG]

    Piet Mondrian
    [IMG]

And shoot, I have to do eleven.

    Edward Hopper
    [IMG]

These are in no particular order and the images aren't my favorites necessarily; just representative images. And, yes, I really wanted to do two for each artist.

Damn, that was awesomely fun. Thanks, Debo. Great list choice.

It's true. You see reproductions and digital copies, but there's no comparison to really standing in front of a work. There's a painting by Carlo Carra called The Funeral of the Anarchist Galli. I'd never liked it really . . . until I saw it in person. The vibrant colors, the incredible energy of it . . . none of it translated into the books I'd seen it in or the digital images of it. Rothko is a good example; seen in digital copies, his work kind of seems facile or simplistic. But the depth of those colors when you're standing right in front of them . . . amazing.

Not really. But if you want to include him, sure. It's not like these lists need to be officially approved by the Vatican.

it was really hard to leave "the crane wife" off my list. "mutations" and "sea change" are way up there too. too many honorable mentions to mention really. i could make a top 50 list and still struggle with leaving things off.

Weird list. Some absolutely awesome albums, and some sucky ones. But that's taste in music... to each their own!

    Like:
Radiohead (though The Bends is better)
Van Halen - 5150 (though 1984 is better)
