Ooh are we posting pictures from Austria??

Austria was the first place it started snowing while I was living in Prague. I've gone to visit snow before, but never had to live in it.




After 5 minutes, I was over it.

What is it with all those JCCers visiting Austria and not meeting up with me?

I long for you all! Being a geek in Vienna feels so isolated.

Yankee, is it just me or would you agree you've a lot of your father in you?
The resemblance in the face between this picture and the one on the last page seems pretty strong to me.

Yesterday we started shooting a documentary on the elderly gentlemen on the left, a shoemaker from Georgia who's capable of manufacturing the smallest shoes in the World. But that's only one aspect on why I've decided to make a film about him. He's a fascinatingly driven person.
The picture shows him and me going over some details. An actress I've known for years then did the actual interviews with him, since she knows more on the shoemaking craft than me.

 

I lived in Prague in 2008, which was before I knew you or that you lived in Vienna, or else I totally would have hung out with you.

The only people I got to meet/see while I was there was Senny, Erwin, and Skiara. And solojones, who just happened to be traveling too. Mar wouldn't come up from Slovakia.


I do want to go back to Austria and see Salsburg (and go on the Sound of Music tour) and go back to Vienna when it's not freezing cold and snowing. And go back to that summer palace and actually see it in, you know, summer. ;p

Two points:

1. I lived in the US (New York, to be more exact) until 2003. At the time of the picture, we lived in Whitestone.

2. Yes, there is a slight resemblance with my dad. Or, to put it another way: I spent many of my summers as a child in his hometown, a relatively small village east of Stuttgart. I would walk down the street and be constantly greeted by perfect strangers who immediately recognized me as my father's son.

 

Sorry! I had just moved back home from England and started both school and work, and the money was a bit tight...

Can't resist, here we are from the pavilion above you in that picture. This is so meta!

 

The "pavillion" as you call it is the Gloriette, which has a wonderful café that my wife and I used to go to on Sundays when we lived in Vienna. Under the original plan, what is now Schönbrunn Palace was supposed to be the "lower" palace (like a guest house) with the grander upper palace where the Gloriette is. The Habsburgs ran out if money, though, after construction had begun and so the Gloriette was finished off quickly as the structure it is now.
