This is a good question and one that has no answer, since she herself probably doesn't even know who they are.
Apparently not in the overall story, since Lucas didn't include it. I think it would be interesting though. And to think that Anakin's entire fate, and the fate of the galaxy--both of which stemmed back to his past as a slave--could have been very different if pirates had not captured Shmi and her parents and sold them into slavery.
I don't think the Wook link says, not the last time I looked at it. Also, I don't think she was sold to Gardulla until after Anakin was born.
Anakin was 3 when they were sold to Gardulla (or approximately 3). Wook only says "pirates" if I remember correctly.
I sort of like the fact that Anakin's birthplace wasn't revealed. It gives the Skywalkers a mysterious background.
Shmi was probably old enough to have vague memories of who her family were, images and names. Shmi was sold to a variety of owners before she was sold to Gardulla the Hutt, presumably after Anakin was born though.
I like that the Skywalker birthplace isn't revealed to. It makes the universe in SW more mysterious. I would prefer if the Skywalkers came from another galaxy. Like the milky way galaxy.
I also love the mystery of it, but I can't help but wonder who the first Skywalkers were, where their name came from etc. Their origin probably has little to do with the Force, since Anakin was supposedly conceived by midichlorians, but he may have inherited certain character traits from his ancestors. Skywalkers are mysterious /LM
I could be wrong, of course. The Force may well have been strong with the Skywalkers before Anakin was born. The Force is strong /LM
Anakin had no paternal ancestors, just one mom. He was created by the Force, making him a space half god half man like thor type character. That's a way to think of it. That's a reason people disliked the prequels, they didn't like how Vader had no father.
I would like if star wars had more sci-f themes to it, mentioning other galaxies and possibly earth. That's how i would've written SW.
I tend to fool myself into thinking that Shmi was lying when she said that Anakin did not have a father. I would have liked a paternal force legacy, some mysterious alien strong in the force who fathered Anakin - maybe he would have just been known as "a skywalker" - whatever that was. And then there could have been a trilogy about Luke's grandfather...
