    Arnold is returning.

Details are few on the plot of the new film, but it is said to ignore the events of both Conan the Destroyer and of the most recent reboot, 2011's Conan the Barbarian, which features "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa in the lead.

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make,” producer Frederik Malmberg tells the site about where The Legend of Conan picks up. “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

Obviously, this is very good news. Now if they can get Milius back to direct and somehow resurrect Mako and Basil Poledouris, we'll be golden.

I am, I think, one of the only people out there who enjoyed the 2011 film.

The 2011 film has it's positive elements (Momoa, the witch/daughter) but never came together as a whole enough to be good.

Yeah Momoa was far closer to Howard's vision that Ah-nold was.

Yeah, they're different takes on the character. Momoa brought a contained energy to the character, like he was ready to spring at any moment. Arnold's was more introspective yet seemed to enjoy life (even through the misery) more.

The Arnold version is still my favorite (I have no particular attachment to the source material) as it really does exemplify an epic character of legend like few have ever achieved in a movie. And it's achieved in such a beautiful, simple, yet cinematic way, with how it combines visuals and music and requires very little dialogue beyond the opening narration.

Could be cool, if they get Millius back on board and let him run with his ideas for his King Conan script. Arnold is actually the perfect age for that one now.

A shame this didn't happen when WB was developing King Conan back in (I think it was) '99, when Poledouris was still alive. On the upside, we haven't been fully robbed of a true Conan sequel forever, as I once regretted.

Oh don't get me wrong; I love the 1982 film. I think it's the best fantasy film made, Lord of the Rings be damned. It's exactly what fantasy films should be, on every level.

But a few years ago (maybe 2006?) I got this: http://www.sfsite.com/~silverag/howard.html

I'd only read Robert Jordan's Conan works but the original was an interesting revelation, and you're right about Momoa's spring-coiled energy. That's how a lot of Howard's stories have him.

How? Are they going to make a topic out of how old he has become since Arnold does not look like that anymore?

If it continues the plot threads & themes of the original, the notion of a great warrior becoming King and how it can affect them was the second biggest plotline of the original (after Conan's personal double-revenge).

I don't know if it'll be as centric to the basis of this new movie as it was for the King Conan script (which would have had Conan dealing with the actions of his son, following up on the original's line of "There comes a time, thief, when the jewels cease to sparkle, when the gold loses its luster, when the throne room becomes a prison, and all that is left is a father's love for his child."), but an elder Conan upon the throne is pretty much what has been promised for a Conan sequel for the past 30 years.

    Ahnuld's back.

2014. Mark it down on your calendar, folks.

No word on a release date for the porn parody with the same name.

    JTS EDIT: Merged redundant threads.

Looking forward to see how this develops. I like Momoa, but his Conan film was severely lacking..

No kidding. Ahnuld has not aged well, though I suspect he may have done one or two ill advised facelifts as well.

This is slightly cheating. On the left is 235 pounds Arnold, on the right is old Arnold a couple of weeks after heart surgery.

Arnold as 220 pound Conan(he actually said he did not move as well at higher weight and slimmed to 220).

He just can't be out of shape for this but who knows, his head was cgi'd onto a body for Terminator Salvation and it worked though he never looked like te body used.
Perhaps my main concern is quality. The first Conan flick is awesome. It did not do well at the box office and for the sequel they toned it down for a PG rating and even the theme music...the awesome theme music...was watered down. I liked the 2nd movie but it was just a silly costume version of the epic brutality of the 1st.

Here, 11 minutes you will not regret:

I'll be honest, considering he's 65, that's not terrible. It's not spectacular, but could be way, way worse.

Besides, based on the OP I'm pretty sure the premise is "Old, weary, and weathered Conan" so he certainly fits the bill.
