I think Spielberg is the best option.

Just off the phone with my fave director & he's buzzing about this Star Wars thing, saying it's his dream gig. I told him to go for it.

The only hint I'll give is that we've known each other 5 years and he sneaked onto the Dagobah set at Elstree when he was 8 years old.

Fits the age and is British... recently pulled out of the X-Men sequel...

    Michael Bay!!

Yeah, um... no, never mind. :p

I haven't really given it too much thought, but Spielberg would be awesome! :)

George Lucas. I swear the first official announcement is going to be that he has been hired to direct this thing. And then I'll lol.

Joss Whedon, he's probably the most likely at this time anyways.

Then Christopher Nolan then. Watch it be the guy who played John Blake be the main character xD.

The whole anti CGI and anti digital film stance might hurt his cause with Lucasfilm. Would be cool though.

Won't be Whedon as he's busy enough with Avengers 2 and Shield. Wouldn't want him to not be able to give his full attention to either of those or SW.

I could see Spielberg, but fear that would just make his friend George want to be more involved and the less he is involved the better a new SW movie can be. I'm thinking it'll be someone not as yet discussed.

Big no to Spielberg. Too incestuous, and quite frankly, not sure I'd want him to direct at all.

Whedon I'd be okay with. Nolan I'd love but can't see it being a fit.

Somone like David Fincher would be a dream for me, or maybe Neill Blomkamp.

Brad Bird or one of the other Pixar guys.

There's a bunch of suitable candidates, please god nobody like Bay.

My first reaction was "Spielberg" but as magnificent as the guy is, he is getting old. And lets face it he hasnt had a great
movie since "Saving Private Ryan" (AI was a bust, and Tintin was overrated). Lets face it, its a young mans game. Thats
why I'd say no to Ridley Scott as well, as great as he is. No greybeards, please.

Brad Bird directed the Incredibles, one of the best animated movies ever, so yeah, he'd be good.

I don't have a specific guy but I want them to be a Star Wars fan who can extend and take it to the next level. I look at Dr. Who and how that show has been resurrected by people who loved it when they were young. That is the best way to ensure that these new films don't take a serious wrong turn.

For my serious consideration: Peter Jackson and Brian Singer top the list

For my frivolous consideration: Kevin Smith co-directing with one of the Wachowskis. Kevin for dialog and characters, Wachowski for action and handling f/x/technical supervision. Hey, again, it's frivolous! LOL Don't know that Kevin would be a) considered or b) accept it if it were offered.

Joe Johnston. I think he did a great job with Captain America and he obviously has the Star Wars lineage to give the films the right look and tone

just think of the endless possibilities

    - gothic planets of stop motion creatures

    - Johnny Depp as some wise cracking Jedi

    - Helena Bohem Carter as a temptress for Han

    - weird oucast dark Jedi (who just wants to be loved)

    - Christopher Lee narrating the opening text crawl

    - new weird designs of C-3PO (scissors for hands)

    I kid :p

It's too bad that Kershner is not around anymore. I think that Spielberg would be a great choice to direct at least the first movie in the new trilogy, and get the ball rolling. Because of his long time affiliation with Lucas, his involvement would add a lot of credibility to the post-Lucas era, so it would be a good transition. Also, he's an amazing director. Some other good names are Peter Jackson, Brad Bird and JJ Abrams. I like Christopher Nolan a lot, but his movies always have a very distinctive visual and story-telling style that doesn't really fit with Star Wars. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't branch out and do other stuff, so maybe he could still be good for Episode VII, or also VIII and IX. As for writers, Lawrence Kasdan is still alive and working, so that seems like a good choice :) Also Roberto Orci and Alexander Kurtzman, if they are not still busy with Star Trek. Also Jonathan Nolan.

Edit: I saw that someone mentioned Joe Jonston, and I regret that I didn't think of him too. He would be a great fit.
