Ender_Sai - sounds like fun to me. You mean just do it in this thread, but put up in the title which one we're discussing, etc? Sounds great. Let's do it.

You should create a new thread to give it more visibility. People are going to be posting their Skyfall reviews/opinions in ths thread.

Yes, but... Skyfall is the 50th anniversary of the literary 007. If I'm not mistaken, it's the 60th anniversary of when Fleming started to write the novels too. Bond, in certain respects, is the sum of his parts - the franchise could not have endured without the installments and the public support.

Skyfall, therefore, owes a debt to the preceding 22 films in the series. Our thoughts on the series will be influenced, I'd say, by Craig's raw revisioning of the Fleming property and Skyfall will influence our opinions of the other films, and vice versa.

I think running it here, but just because when we did the last one circa 2007 (I stepped down in early 2008 so it was before that) it took well over a month. Skyfall's not going to be the only topic of discussion nor has it been so far.

Given that it is released to the US in around 8 days, and another 3 weeks for Oz (again, tears) we can start shortly or kick off soonish, whatever suits.

Skyfall is the 50th anniversary of the literary 007

You mean: "... of the cinematic 007", correct?

Erm, yes. I was thinking that Fleming started writing in 1952, a year before the splendid Casino Royale was published, and a decade before Dr No was released. Then, easily confused and conflated, etc etc.

I think we should make a new thread with a more generalized title, EG "50 Years of 007", and let this thread remain for the inevitable flood of Skyfall discussion.

Either way, count me in for comprehensive reviews and discussion of all the films, including the non-EON installments.

What, CBS' Casino Royale featuring a (GASP) heathen American James Bond?

    Also: wonderful interview:

For Coruscant 's sake. I saw Skyfall. My expectations weren't met, but it was really very good indeed. So there. :p

Saw Skyfall yesterday, and was so happy. I didn't like Casino Royal, didn't watch Quantum of Solace, but felt like I wanted to give Skyfall a chance. It's a good film that acknowledges the history and not just trying to ignore the lighter aspects of some of the earlier films.

I hope you enjoy it. I also hope you have a better behaved audience that mine - I wished I had a license to kill several times during the film. ******* kids.

I had a great audience. Silence throughout, laughs and automobile appreciation as appropriate. Having said that, I went immediately after work so the kids were probably all at home having their tea. :p

Hey you kids had your chance and made the wrong decision to split off. Maybe you're being punished for your impudence. :p

Did anyone see that the Vatican has endorsed this vision of James Bond?

I just got a picture of this from Omega on my Facebook feed.

I own a Seamaster professional - the watch worn by Craig in the latter half of CR and by Brosnan. It's not one of the 007 models, which I've always thought look a bit tacky. If you're going to spend that much on a watch, wouldn't you find having the 7 replaced on the dial by a 007 logo a bit tacky too?

Watched Skyfall today, it didn't blow my mind, but it was good entertainment.

And the fireworks were just classic.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. Great acting, great plot, and great winks for the initiated. It wasn't perfect, but it was a damn good Bond movie.

If you had to say what the perfect Bond film was for you, what would it be?

I'm not sure if you mean me or Daveed, but I'll chip in. I don't think there's ever been a perfect Bond film. The closest the franchise has ever come (IMO) is GoldenEye. Brosnan's outings became ridiculous after that, though. If I could somehow meld GoldenEye and Skyfall, that would be the cocktail.

    Both of you.

I haven't seen Skyfall yet - we loyal Australians have to wait until November 22 [face_plain] - but I'd say OHMSS is the perfect Bond film IMHO.

I'm finally into the Craig films after never having watched a James Bond film, and watching all the movies to prepare for Skyfall. I'm watching Casino Royale now, loved the parkour chase.
