Amph The Gundam Mega-thread! (and other Anime/Manga)

Since I'm bored, I've been watching my old standby, the various Gundam series'. Right now, I'm currently on my favorite, Gundam X. Sucks that it got tanked early, but still quite the nice series IMHO. Of course, one can't deny how nice it is to see a Gundam that makes Wing Zero look like a wimp (Twin Buster Rifle? Try Twin Satellite Cannon that can vape an island in one shot!!)

As to why this isn't just a 'Sky-Guy revisits his childhood' thread...I figured that we could have a mega-thread for fans of the various series'. I know that there was a Gundam thread on the old boards, but it was long dead, so we have the new one.

First question...what is your favorite series? I already named mine, so I'm curious on the others.

(if this is the wrong place, I apologize...haven't really posted in Community before...)

 

Is this open to all anime/manga or just Gundam?

Actually in the process of watching Turn A right now. It's pretty entertaining, if quite a bit different than my preferred lolTomino nonsense.

To be serious though, Gundam has always been entertaining since I first got into it with SEED (yes, I know, not the best by any means). Its got the right mix of hilarity (*points at above post* like that) and seriousness.

As to why X in particular is my favorite...can't really describe it. There is just something about it that pulls me in more than the others. Maybe its the setting...or maybe its this:

I'm absolutely ashamed to admit what I read every week... I'm just hoping the series ends with everyone dead.

Bleach wasn't bad. Now though...Kubo is out of ideas and its painfully obvious.

 

I love Bleach.

Ichigo's story should have ended with the end of the Arancar arc and him losing his powers.

Then I thought they were going to do stories with his sister, and I thought that had more potential, but nope... going back to the same ol' formula.

 

I love the 0079 MS Gundam movie trilogy and Zeta Gundam. Gundam SEED is cool, too, to a slightly lesser extent.

I watched half of ZZ gundam, half of Gundam SEED Destiny, most of Gundam X, and the first few episodes of Gundam 00. I've never gotten a chance to finish watching those series. Had the fansubs backed up on discs that all got damaged in a move. meh.

Also watched some Gundam Wing and G Gundam when they were on Cartoon Network. Didn't care for them as much as UC Gundam.

All of SEED/SEED Destiny (have them on DVD), all of Gundam X all of 00, part of Turn A, and all of the original. Haven't seen Z or ZZ yet. Nor Unicorn or AGE.

 

Anybody else here seen the unique, twisted magic that is Victory Gundam? Home of the two most misleadingly upbeat openings in the franchise?

You should fix that, Z is often considered the cream of the crop, and ZZ is great once you get past the... ... interesting creative decisions that bog down the first ten or so episodes.

Never remedy that.

 

Ahh...I blocked Victory from my mind. So depressing, and the highest death toll of Gundam.

I've seen maybe part of an episode of AGE. No real desire for more.

And I've been told that about Z and ZZ...just haven't had the chance yet. Meaning to get to it...highly doubt it will unseat X from its pedestal as my favorite though

 

How would start into this genre/series? I feel overwhelmed.

 

Hmmm....definitely not Victory or AGE (Vic is rather...dark... and as Ramza pointed out, AGE just sucks). I would say either the original, Zeta, or SEED. The original if you want to start from the beginning, Zeta is generally said to be the best, and SEED is easy to get into.

 

Skywalker T-65: I would highly recommend getting Zeta Gundam on DVD. I bought the box set that came with the poster and minifigs. I have no idea what I did with those minifigs.
