End of Summer 2013 is right around D23Expo.

EDIT: And now I have a new idea for a thread.

 

I think 'major news' implies a trailer. We will certainly have news of some sort, but it may not involve stills or footage.

A teaser. Not a 2 minute long shpeil on the plot of the film.

 

Major news would be to announce the writer/director/stars of the film. They won't start filming a movie set for release in Summer 2015 until late 2013 at the earliest.

 

I'm skeptical of Iger's statement, since he has no direct involvement in the actual production of the film.

 

Hmmm... can't mark this as official - sentence on Wikipedia is unsourced. Wouldn't surprise me, though.

 

A little more info, from Wiki:
Disney CEO Robert Iger, via a live video chat with board members & stockholders, said that they will be "no news about the upcoming Episode VII" until "the ink is well dried on the buy". He add that he hopes to have major news near the end of summer and that everyone is more focused on 2012/2013 right and non-Lucasfilms properties.

 

Yea I was think if true, this could be his way of saying "look we dont have any news on Star Wars, so dont bring it up, now less talk about current stuff"

 

It's also possible that he's just being a good businessperson and giving the company plenty of time before they have to make any "major news" for the film. Don't make promises you can't keep, that kind of thing.

 

yea and the part about nothing until the ink is dry sounds right, why talk about stuff if its not signed yet, something could always happen. So its better to shut up until all is done with.

 

Thats a good twitter to follow, if you want just Star Wars 7 stuff, as for story.... isn't end of Summer around comic con time? Or Celebartions? Does seem like a good time, do the first offcial panel, do Q&A and the 'ink" will be dry long before end of the summer, i guess.

But he good friends with Lucas and is handling the buy. I'm sure he would know this or told it. Afaik if true I think it's a way to just say "lets move on"

 

CoolyFett: I'd vowed to myself that I was going to ignore you (since, based on your behavior, I consider you to be a 'troll'), but I can't help myself. I'm entitled to my opinion, which is that I'm skeptical of Iger's statement because, although he's the CEO of the Disney Corporation, he's not going to be the one 'down in the trenches' actually making Episode VII.

 

I find this CEO's lack of faith disturbing.

 

YES! Some people still think DISNEY is making the film. Lucasfilm, under Kathleen.K, is making the film. Disney is lucasfilms parent company. Sure, Kathleen reports to Iger, but only on the same basis GL did to fox on ANH. The story, pre-production, shooting and a lot of post will be handeled by lucasfilm.

 

I don't expect any further news until the deal goes through in Jan2013. The quite from says major news so it depends on what that means. It doesn't mean no news and I would think that they'd be silly to not drip feed some details. The wave if support for this trilogy has caught me by surprise because I thought Srar Wars had become Jaded in the public and fantastical eyes but I think it's now bigger than ever everyone is really fired up for the new films.
