Not sure if this is the correct thread but, I haven't watched star wars for years, and quite frankly never simultaneously (I watched the first 3 as a toddler, and the prequels in their respective release dates). With the dawn of the whole "Sequel trilogy" news I'm inspired to watch the whole thing again. Anyone know a good order? Or should I just skip the prequels altogether? Thanks, just curious.

Since you already know all the secret, you might as well watch 1-6.

The last time I watched the whole saga it was 4 5 1 2 3 6 - this way, it ends on a happy note. ANH is still the best introduction to the GFFA and doesn't stick out much if you watch it in the middle.

I just remembered that all I have is the VHS tapes of the originals. Don't got no VHS player. Great. Anybody have some torrents, or something?

This. Despite embarrassing revisionism, it's the only order that truly works.

The way the artist who created it intends it to be seen.

    In order.

    1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6.

Too bad he didn't actually make it that way - i.e., "in order" .

Plus, if you're the creator of a series that was made out of chronological order, but your "intention" (after-the-fact, at any rate) is for them to be seen in chronological order, here's a useful tip:

don't foreshadow elements of 4-5-6 in your 1-2-3 films.

Until the ST comes out, still no definitives...
I prefer 4-6, 1-3 because spoilers and stuff. But I don't care about this much in the first place. I will definitely watch these movies again. In other orders. Because it is fun.

Many people enjoy foreshadowing. Thanks for your opinion tho.

As do I....but that wasn't the point.

The point was that foreshadowing 4-5-6 elements in the 1-2-3 films doesn't jibe well with the strict, 'auteur-intended' viewing order of 1 through 6.

There's no "IMO" about it. "Foreshadowing" by definition implies familiarity with future events. Lucas was counting on audience's familiarity with the 4-5-6 films, which being the case, doesn't lend well to a 'mandatory' 1-6 viewing.

Again, thank you kindly for sharing your POV.

I personally enjoy foreshadowing of every kind all throughout the OS like in ANH with pretty much everything about luke.

Not necessarily. The Harry Potter series contains a plethora of foreshadowing although it was released in chronological order. Foreshadowing does not have to be with events the audience is already familiar with -- it can be used as a device to drop hints about future events. I figured out that the locket Horcrux was in the Black house before Book 7 was released, for example, because I remembered a scene in Book 5 of Harry and friends cleaning the house and being unable to open a locket they discovered (which was listed among a bunch of other random items).

Foreshadowing can work both ways and, in fact, is a good way to lead into events that have yet to occur.

Chronological order (I, II, III, IV, V, and VI). That's the order Lucas himself intends them to be viewed even though it's not the order in which he made them.

That release is OOP. And it is of objectively embarrassing, inferior quality.

Its always amusing to me to see when people seek to watch the movie that its not rather than the movie that it is but to each his own.
