Speculation Who Should Be Supreme Chancellor Of The Republic In Episode VII?

I was going to put Jar Jar down but forgot.

 

Ackbar would never get anything done. He'd never compromise. Why, you ask? Because everything is a TRAP to him.

Voted Leia, well, just because.

 

If the movie takes place far after 6, then it won't be Ackbar or Mothma. I'd like to see a non-human in charge since we haven't see one in a while.

 

Leia, definitely Leia.

Of note here is that the votes cast for "Another" can also be counted for Leia, since, you know, she's "Another"/the Other Skywalker.

So, currently 20 votes for Leia.

 

So if Leia is the boss, does that make Solo the first man?

 

I would think Mon Mothma after ROTJ with Leia a potential successor down the road. Depends on the timeline they decide to start the ST.

I feel it would be fitting to have an alien Head of the Republic given that the Empire hated aliens.

Depends how soon after ROTJ. Mon Mothma gets my vote for the early years, Lando for the latter ones.

I rather see Leia as a Jedi than a politition.

I would like to see a new Chancellor from Valorum family.

Either Mon Mothma or Leia would be my choice. However I don't believe it would be under the 'Supreme Chancellor' moniker. Maybe the Republic would try to move away from that title considering what went before and it's now evil connotations. A more refrained President of The New Republic or such like.

 

^ Not Leia; I've covered this in another thread, but, based solely on the film canon, the most logical 'next step' for Leia is to join her brother in the rebuilt Jedi Order as a Master, which is a role in which both the political legacy of her mother Padme Amidala and adoptive parents (particularly her father Bail) and the inherent Force potential of her father Anakin Skywalker - can best intersect.

If we're limiting this strictly to existing film canon characters, my top 3 choices would be Mon Mothma, Admiral Ackbar, and General Lando Calrissian; all three have the political clout and administrative abilities to be able to handle the duties of the job without being corrupted by the power associated with it, and the role is a natural extension of their respective roles as seen in Return of the Jedi.

In all seriousness though, I can't see it NOT being Leia. Though an Ackbar chancellorship would be awesome.

 

I voted another. Maybe the guy in the Attack of the clones that asked Obi-wan if he wanted a death stick??? yeah that guy. Because he went home and re-thinked his life

 

In my script version of Episode VII, I have Mon Mothma as President of the Republic at the beginning of the movie, but she is old and sickly. Later she passes away and Leia ("Foreign Minister Solo") succeeds her as President. People refer to her as "Madame President." I wasn't sure what you would call a woman president. Awhile after I wrote my story, season 7 of "24" had a woman president, and they called her "Madame President, " so I felt pretty good about myself.
