Am reading Darth Bane book 2, having just finished the Revan novel. I don't play the games so I'm new to the Old Republic stuff, but what happened to the actual Sith race/species, and the ultra-powerful thousand year old Sith Emperor from around 4k years before Episode 4?

Sometimes Wookieepedia just has TOO much information lol. Short version please.

Genoci- UH I MEAN, they we're soundly yet honourably defeated by the noble Jedi and never seen again for some absolutely unrelated reason! Yeah, that's it!

We know that Thule still has a huge amount of Sith cultists and we know that the Sith are prone to interbreeding with humans.

I'm inclined to think the Red Sith species bred into humanity and ceased to exist.

There are probably some still around. Plenty of planets have significant populations of them and were never bombed.

At the very last, there was a population on Tund until one of the Empire's allies destroyed that planet.

Same as the gray-skinned Taung, I guess, although these disappeared in what, twenty years? I've always suspected they comitted species-wide ritual suicide after the Mandalorian Wars.

What happened to the red-skinned Sith species?

TCW turned them into droids, that's what.

On the Sith Species- by The Old Republic, the ones of the Empire, despite the "pureblood" name, are actually hybrids.

    The Sith Emperor is:
spoilered for those that want to play the The Old Republic game first:
killed by the Jedi Knight hero in the game.

After TOR brought the Red Sith back, I'm kinda hoping for a non-pureblood like Malgus to invent some Alpha Red style alchemical virus that wipes out everyone with Sith genes. Seems the sorta thing a rival Sith Lord would do.

We saw Seelah breed it out of them on Kesh, but this would be full blown genocide, completing what the Jedi began after the Great Hyperspace War, and showing it takes a Sith to do a Sith's work.

Can't trust Jedi to do genocide seriously.

They and the original mandalorians packed up and moved away and are living off the royalty checks from the folks that are using their names and culture.

Retconned what- the Sith emperor thing, or the statement that "purebloods are actually hybrids" from The Old Republic Encyclopaedia?

    The sith emperor
isn't dead. The Jedi Knight killed the possessed Voice of the Emperor, He is recuperating somewhere, being tend by his Hand(s).

    Yeah.

The Jedi Knight's final battle in the campaign is now with the Voice of the Emperor as opposed to the Emperor himself.

Did they ever explain why the Emperor doesn't look like a red Sith? Was he supposed to have essence-transferred into a human-looking host at some point?

He constantly body surfs between the Voice and the Children

For example he directly controlled Kira on the Desolator

The SW galaxy is pretty huge with millions of systems. I'm sure it would be easy enough for them to find a quiet place to disappear to. Maybe they will pop up again in the post-ROTJ era. I wouldn't mind that, actually.

I always assumed that they died off as a result of either interbreeding (Lost Tribe of Sith/TOR SIth Empire), endless warfare (Great Hyperspace War) or being sacrificed by Sith Lords (Exar Kun sacrifice of the Massassi on Yavin IV). Mind you, there might be pockets still out there but I think by the later eras, the Sith are effectively extinct. At least, thats what I think. There might be some colonies surviving consisting of Massassi or Kissai (at least, they were in the KotOR Campaign Guide) and there was that globe that contained the souls of Massassi children on Yavin that Anakin/Tahiri freed.
