Nah, you live in a country where bullying gay kids is legal in certain states as freedom of religious speech. So it's not really necessary. (Read with heavy sense of being annoyed at how religion influences too much in America)

I'm not in the mood for this discussion right now, and I'm in the doubly unfair situation where whatever I say in response could upset Rick.

All I shall say is that religion is faith, atheism is the lack of faith in a higher power and is not a faith in science. You are making the horribly narrow minded conclusion that science and religion are two mutually exclusive subjects, a mind set that makes me incredibly angry as I believe that it is what has lead to America's current state of anti-intellectualism. Your entire point is driving at the belief that if faith isn't taught in school then neither should science.

No, I'm saying that they are the same. A set of beliefs. And I believe a lot of what Science can prove.

my main point was it annoys me that the government are pampering to people who are "offended" by the name Jesus Christ, just bothers me is all.

 

And this is why I keep out of religious discussions...

whatever you say someone ends up getting upset...

 

And there are people who believe in Transubstantiation, the sacrament being what God says when the words of institution are said, those who think its a symbol. And those who think its a waste of time. Major disagreement there.

It's not a matter of offence, it's a matter of forcing a belief system upon children at an informative age as the "normal" thing. As I said before, RE is the time for teaching religion in schools IMO. Not assembly. That means a child would be able to come to a conclusion on what they believe with the lessons they receive, assembly should simply be about basic morals and delivering news about the school.

 

It did. And I appreciated it to, even though we don't agree about everything related to it (really glad the conversation didn't go there, honestly. That might be a long one. Or, it'd be me giving you the address of a good church of my denomination near you, if we agreed (or if we didn't and you wanted to discuss with someone with a degree in this (don't think my dad would want to get on here)) )

Not talking about god is not the same as teaching atheism. Again, a misnomer.

I don't see the necessity of your correction. Things like "play nice" and "stealing is wrong" are everyday little morals that school assemblies enforce for young children.

 

Kids don't care until they are older, and honestly should be given all sides of the picture later on, not asked to make a choice then.
They have 60-80 years to decide what they want to believe, and what they don't.
