ST Lucasfilm Confirms: Michael Arndt To Write Screenplay For Episode VII

Toy Story 3 was fantastic.

This is absolutely wonderful news. The film couldn't be in better hands - and he's a fan, to boot.

 

Hot digidty dog!! I'm loving this news. The new school next generation Star Wars is moving in the right direction. So happy they found some who will honor the Palpatine movies & not screw with them. That's a good look.

 

We don't know that. So far, I've only seen quote regarding the originals.

 

Star Wars should not be Iron Man... no rock soundtrack, the romantic-early 20th century style orchestration would be ideal for a soundtrack with spacy jazz tracks

 

We get to see totally new characters, which is really cool. Thank god for Ms Kennedy for doing the right thing. I'm loving it.

 

I liked LMS and Toy Story 3, both good films. Can he do EPIC? We shall see.

Now the other persistent "rumor" is Matthew Vaughn for Director.

Folks, expect news pretty fast and furious. Usually GL took 3 years to produce SW. Disney is doing Ep 7 in approximately 30 months, so we're a little behind the pace. Things need to start rolling quickly to make May 2015.

 

I think they jump the gun cause of the rumors. Makes you wonder if the other rumors are false then

 

Excellent choice. Now that I know that the writing is in good hands, I just have to cross my fingers for Brad Bird as director .

The New next generation of movie will be great. Toy Story 3 was good so this movie featuring all new characters will totally get my support I'm totally felling this.

Now there needs to be no Abrams or Nolan and I'll be happy.

This is great cause it shows he can so family and then a more serious type

 

From other reports I read he was hired to do a draft this summer -- which he did for the whole trilogy. I would imagine this was based off GL's notes and synopses.

 

The new Disney series sounds exciting already, hope they get a director & cast some diverse actors like Neil Patrick Harris or David Spade. I'm happy about this news, just tickled.

 

They don't exactly have a lot of time to write multiple drafts and rewrite them like Lucas did for the original Star Wars in the 1970s. If they're still aiming for a 2015 release, they'll have to get the pre-production work done at least by the end of 2013 and they'd need more than a draft for that.

 

Well, we can certainly take Brad Bird out of the running, as that mysterious 1952 project is gaining speed with George Clooney signing up to star. Spielberg is a no no, and so is Abrams, most likely. I wonder who they're going to get.

 

I guess I mean that they have enough confidence to believe Arndt will not need a second writer for a final rewrite or two.

Consider this: We only learned that the ST was being made a little over a week ago. In that time, we've learned that treatments have been written, a screen-writer named, confirmation that the OT cast was brought into the discussion months ago...
This has been in the works for some time already. I bet pre-production is well under way.

 

I hope they get a great young actor to play Han Solo though.

 

I'm glad this is true! A lot of people, myself included, consider Toy Story 3 the strongest of the Toy Story movies. IMDB has TS3 ranked at 54 on the top 250 movies.

Also, they've announced Episode VII for a release on July 17th, 2015 for the USA. That shouldn't come as a shock to anyone who understands why the May slot was chosen. Fox chose the slot, Fox isn't involved with Episode VII.

I guarantee they've been working on Episode VII since 2010, when it got leaked that there was a new trilogy underway (though it was quickly dismissed, it's obvious it was true) The July 2015 release date is completely reasonable, they've had the story and the scripts underway for perhaps a year. They'll start filming mid next-year my guess.

 

That made me laugh more than it should have...
