It's more than dense... dense is the silmarion, the post-ROTJ EU is like refined uranium its so dense. Could part of the EU be saved, sure... but the number of events that must be trashed for say Chewbacca to appear on screen for example is so large that it'll more than trample the EU, large sections will be nuked from orbit to clear waste ground for this.

Want Chewie? Say bye bye to Vector Prime... Without Vector Prime the NJO falls apart. Without the NJO then Legacy falls apart. As to why I'm not mourning the loss of all this? (Well besides saving Mara Jade Skywalker from a moronic end.)

Episode VII is about passing the torch right? *Whistles*

Lets see, we have three Solo kids, and if Nom Anor didn't infect Mara then we might have Ben Skywalker as well running around. Four kids, two of which are at the cusp of adulthood. Seems like a great place to go from, right?

That's the problem for the EU crowd. It's NOT a huge part of the film-going audience. it's a very, very, very, very, very small part.

If Luke doesn't enjoy a hot cup of Lando-inspired hot chocolate at some point in the film I'll walk out of the cinema.

Missing the point. Loudly and clearly. They don't have to mention 1 single, damn thing from the EU and can still make the movies fit with it. Why are you ppl having such a hard time grasping this? If you guys are sitting here thinking all the original trilogy characters are going to be in the next 3 movies, I think you're going to be in for a rude awakening. It's probably going to be new characters, with maybe one or two of the movie guys showing up. If that's the case, they can take FIVE MINUTES and make stuff fit. They don't have to wade through every single freaking book, comic, video game etc etc.

I'm not saying "All the characters from the EU better be in these movies, or else". Geez! A good writer can make it fit with minimal effort.

Pretty sure you didn't even read my original post.

He has to want make it fit. I hope he doesn't. The major characters & concepts of the EU are part of what turns me off about it. I hope they scrap it & do something else.

How do you know this? Is there any data that specifies the amount of SW fans that are followers of the EU? You may be right, but I have a hard time believing that they are making a boatload of money off of a TV series, comics, video games and with books on the NY Times Best Selling list with only a very, very, very, very, very small part of the film-going audience being fans of the EU.

Unless I am mistaken, the EU consists of the SW Universe outside of the movies. So fans of The Clone Wars are EU fans. People who play the video games are EU fans. Readers of the comics and novels are EU fans. It just seems to me that there are probably more EU fans than just a small percentage as some people appear to believe.

There's proabably at least a couple hundreds of thousands of EU (non-TCW) fans, judging from statistics. Those stats, however, may overlap.
Years of EU will still make less money than one huge summer blockbuster, though.

You're probably right. I know I am shocked whenever somebody tells me they are a HUGE Star Wars fan and then I ask them what they thought about Luke Skywalker's wife dying in the novels and they say, "Luke Skywalker was married? There are novels?"

I am thinking, "Don't you go to book stores? Or the library?" There is an entire Star Wars section at my local Books-a-Million store.

People are fans of Star Wars, not reading. Reading is for losers.

In their defense, if I'm going to sit down & read something it sure as shizzle isn't going to be some Star Wars EU novel. That's probably a pretty common stance.

This is simple. Draw a line down the center of a piece of paper. On one side make a list of all of the people, (not just your friends... your grandma, your priest, everyone,) you know who has seen a SW movie. On the other side write the name of everyone you know who can name all of, or even one of the Solo children.

All my friends can name the Solo children...but you can guess who I hang out with...SW nerds!
I wasn't shocked that they never read a SW book. I was shocked that they never heard of them. They are only on display at the library and when a new release comes out they are at the entraces of the bookstores. I never read the Hunger Games but I know the books exist.

That would depend on how much money LFL gets from (a) movie ticket sales and related tie-in items, every two or three years and (b) how much LFL collects from sales of several new EU novels published per year (x2 or x3) - and the sourcebooks, as well.

I know I have around $2000 worth of books, but Lucas only got one movie ticket purchase out of me for each of the SW prequels.

It is cheaper to buy the book than the cost of gas to get to the library and back twice. And $2000 is not that much when spread out over two decades. Most people spend that much a year on booze or cigarettes.

It's a lot of money when it's spent on EU novels. Although considering the price of toilet paper these days, you might be way ahead....

I'm quite sure there are a lot of things you enjoy that would seem like a waste of money to many people.

No worries. I read the books because it is an enjoyable past time. There are a lot of things one can spend money on that are far more wasteful. I could be frittering away my sons' college funds by playing the slots at the local casino or shoving $10 bills down the speedo of a male stripper. Okay, that would probably be a whole lot more fun than reading Children of the Jedi, but it is still more wasteful.

I'd have to see your photo first. When I think "SW fanboy" I picture the men in the TV show The Big Bang Theory. Although if you look like your profile icon I may toss in a $20.
So very true. Why all the EU hate--CALLISTA! Why did anybody think Luke dating a woman who died and then became possessed by the spirit of a Jedi ghost who would be his grandmother's age if she lived was a romantic concept?

I mean Callista was born decades before Luke. I bet she wanted dinner at 4PM and would drive around in her speeder at 60 KPH with the blinker on the whole time.
