So I read the Bane Trilogy. What should be next on my list of novels to read? I'm looking at a list but im not sure whats worth reading or worth skipping. I don't want to waste time reading what the majority thinks is a crappy novel. I already did that with some post ROTJ stuff. Any suggestions you guys could give would be awesome!

Edit: Realized I should put that the only novels of anything pre a new hope i have read are the han solo trilogy and bane trilogy. Sticking in chrono order, whats worth a read after the bane trilogy?

Darth Plagueis would be an excellent follow-up to the Darth Bane trilogy--if for no other reason than to see the culmination of Bane's life work.

Knight Errant was excellent. It takes place around 30 years before Bane. Keeping on theme I'd heartily suggest, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, the next book on the timeline after Bane. Fantastic page turner. After that you're moving into prequel territory where I suggest the same several books. Outbound Flight, Hard Contact, Yoda: Dark Rendezvous and Labyrinth of Evil.

Edit: Cloak of Deception takes place before Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter. I found it a little dry and heavy on politics so I forgot to include it.

Purgatory and Sentinel from Lost Tribe should be at 3960 BBY, with Sentinel edging into 3959.

Hey guys, I just remembered. I had another question for ya! Is there any literature on the origins of The Emperor and/or Yoda?

Palpatine's origin was recently revealed in Darth Plagueis by James Luceno. Yoda's was covered in an obscure magazine article but the gist of it is summarized here.

Have you read Darth Plagueis? It has really good reviews on Amazon. Do you have any feedback on it?

Also, I wish there was a bit more to the origin of Yoda. But this information provided is good to know.

I haven't read it but Luceno tends to turn in pretty quality work and I've heard mostly good things about it.

The book is good, but it relies on and references a lot of other stories as well (like Cloak of Deception).
If you can ignore that/have read other books in that timeframe, it's an enjoyable book.

Luceno tends to integrate his references pretty well, though, so they make sense in story even if you don't know he's referencing something.

There were a few sections that felt jarring with it, though. Most of it was fine, but some of it could leave you pretty confused...

However, he indicated that knowledge of essence transfer survived in the Banite line after the events of Dynasty of Evil, without offering any explanation as to why this should be the case. He also had Plagueis believing that Bane encountered Sith ghosts on Korriban, which we know did not happen due to Path of Destruction.

Didn't he also say in Dark Lord that some of Palpatine's scars were from his battle with Yoda? Nobody's perfect.

I think that's meant to be a reference to public perception. Several inches further down the page he says that Palpatine's disfigurements were "really nothing new".

Plagueis is really the Palpatine novel, which actually makes a lot of sense once you read the entire novel. It's phenomenal read; in fact DP is what brought me back to the EU after a major burn-out. I think we can chalk the Sith ghosts line up to Plagueis living almost a thousand years after Bane; certain details of Bane's life would likely get garbled over the years. Also, the book probably does more for Dooku than has been done in the last 10 years.

To answer the question, yes you should read it.

Just bought Darth Plagueis and Raven! I'm currently about a third of the way through Darth Bane: Rule of Two. After the third Bane book, I'm going to be all over these two. :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I got Plagueis on my kindle but should I read it before or after Cloak of Deception and Shadow Hunter. I hear they kind of cross paths.

Cloak of Deception came first, and Plagueis references it, so it'd probably be better to read Cloak of Deception first.

Plagueis references Shadow Hunter and not the other way around so I'd read that one first as well.

The whole TPM/Plagueis lead-in stuff is probably one of the EU's best unintentional storylines.

    The Tenebrous Way
    Restraint
    Jedi Council: Acts of War
    Darth Maul: Saboteur
    Cloak of Deception
    Darth Maul (comic)
    Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
    The Phantom Menace
    Episode I Journal: Darth Maul
    End Game
    Darth Plagueis

Darth Plagueis is excellent and a must read- however, since it spans a great deal of time and overlaps with the events of some other sources, I'd suggest reading Cloak of Deception (politics heavy) and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter (action-heavy) first, before reading Plagueis (mixture of politics and action). You avoid spoiling a couple of the nice twists of the former books that way.

(Alternatively, you could read the first 25 chapters of the Plagueis novel, break, read the other two, then come back and finish Plagueis, but that might be a bit more complicated- as well as make it more difficult to judge the works on their own merit).

Following those three books, Outbound Flight, Shatterpoint, Yoda: Dark Rendezvous (from what I'm told) & the Dark Lord Trilogy omnibus (or, individually: Labyrinth of Evil, the Revenge of the Sith novelization (WELL worth reading!) and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader).

If you want to include some comics in that span, there's Jedi Council: Acts of War & Darth Maul (both pre-TPM, details from which are also covered in Plagueis), while you can go with Outlander and the Quinlan Vos: Jedi in Darkness omnibus (collects all the pre-Clone Wars Quinlan comics- some better than others, but it introduces Quinlan and Aayla, among other supporting characters) for stories set between TPM & AOTC.

The, generally, excellent Clone Wars comics (Volumes 1-9) would be a option to follow next (that would be the content NOT based on the current TV show), followed by the terrific Dark Times series (the more recent arcs of which are among the best SW stories ever told).
