I think the thread title should have his name in it.

Hondo is such a scene-stealer. It's nice that we're getting a lot of him in S5 but if he would show up in every arc, it could be too much of a good thing.

How come Hondo's repeatedly stuck in some of the absolute worst episodes of this series?

Take him out of Dooku Captured. Bombad Jedi. Bounty Hunters. Onderon. Revival. That one with cranky Boba Fett I forgot its name. If Hondo hadn't been there, those episodes would have tanked worse than a leaky barge of corrupted poison tea.

It's nice that Hondo is providing a common thread to all the arcs. His role in Revival is effectively the culmination of a plot thread that runs through all the early S5 arcs. I'm unsure whether Young Jedi takes place before or after Onderon, but they both clearly take place before Revival. Depending on how they are ordered, there could be an embryonic character arc for Hondo as the events lead up to his alliance with Obi-Wan to take down Maul.

Young Jedi takes place before Onderon.

I can't help but wonder if Hondo is getting overused a bit. I love hearing Jim Cumming's pirat voice and he's a cool character. But part of his charm is he's really cool, we don't see him much, and he's a nuetral party out for himself. He doesn't have villain chilling with the villains stamped on him like Cad Bane does. I hope he doesn't get skewed by all these appearances.

He'll only have appeared in a handful of S5 episodes - just one in the Onderon arc, possibly two in the Young Jedi arc and one in the long Maul plot thread. I'm liking that they're using a recurring character like him with regularity in different arcs. If only Satine and Vizsla had benefitted from this.

Then they are promoting him to a higher character status. That's atleast 8 episodes that Hond will be in this season out of 22. He's been in like 2 or 3 before. I'm all for developing OCs. But this is getting dangerous with Hondo.

He's one of the few interesting characters who isn't dead or busy actually fighting a war while we get to watch retarded younglings head to the outer rim unescorted.

I have to say I think a team up with Cad Bane would be fun.

I'm really surprised we've not seen Hondo and Bane in a episode together yet.

It'd be a total trip, I think Hondo and Bane would play perfectly off each other. Then they are both two of the most threatening and cunning characters around.

    Lol.

"Is Hondo a good guy or a bad guy? Yes definitely."

Come on Dave, admit it, your a Talespin fan and that's why you hired Jim Cummings to play another pirate.

Ah, Talespin. I remember that show. Dieselpunk Jungle Book. Not surprisingly considering his past role as a pirate aviator, Cummings sounded just right in his role as a space pirate.

Filoni mentioned that Hondo's voice is meant to be "exotic". It reminds me of the stereotypically flamboyant Italian-accented English like what you hear in Assassin's Creed II.

    Darth Vader

Hondo doesn't really go well with Disturbed. :p

Hondo is probably my 2nd favorite voice in TCW. I've always been something of a Jim Cummings fangirl (Corey Burton don't worry you are not far behind. Dave why you no hire Tress McNeille?). Hondo's voice sits somewhere between Don Karnage's (the air pirate from Talespin) whose voice was kinda pitched up and Fat Cat (Rescue Rangers) with a pirate accent who sounded much more menacing. I really hear the later in the laugh and the former when Hondo is excited. Say what you want about the Disney afternoon shows but the voice acting was top notch in those. Its incredibly cool to hear hints of those voices in a similar character in a much more dangerous and more mature type of show. One thing I really love about the voice work in TCW is these are voices you don't hear in any other animated show at the moment. There is no "Oh its that guy again." going on with this show except with Clancy Brown.

He is awesome - but I don't get the topic title?

Is it a play on something he said?

Episode 5.1: "Revival", Hondo says "We're pirates! We don't even know what that means!"

Hondo is great and one of the best new characters introduced in the show. It definitely, or at least kind of, feels like Jim was hired to do the voice since he has voiced pirate characters before (and therefore had some experience).
