I somehow knew Dan_Grievous_Tikkes_Fan would go ballistic on this clip. I loved it as well.

Grievous has stepped up a notch since Massacre. It looks like LFA took the negative reaction to his portrayal in Shadow Warrior on board. Not bad at all. He proves to be a brutal killer (and a sadist - he holds the unmarked trooper "hostage" and has a standoff over his neck... and then crushes his skull for the evulz) and a competent tactician, taking the fight to Obi-Wan's star destroyer with a fast-moving formation of fighters and transports. He even blows up an escorting VSD. His troops are competent and brutal. It remains to be seen if he accomplishes his battle objectives.

There's a good mix of troops and vehicles on both sides. The Vulture droid starfighters are actually seen in their twin roles as dogfighters and mechanised infantry. The droid gunships are used as troop carriers, a role which I've been waiting to see since 2005. We see Tri-fighters and Z-95s, plus the incredibly durable Y-Wing, which somehow protects its pilot from an inferno and an explosive crash. A nice nod to ANH, where a single Y-Wing somehow managed to escape the battle alongside Luke and Wedge despite being set aflame. The clone troopers are a nice mix of 212th Attack Battalion personnel and unmarked Republic Navy clone troopers like the ones seen manning the VSD's side-facing cannons in ROTS. The latter group of clones' austere armour looks very skeletal and similar to the Imperial stormtrooper armour.

Yes, there was Cody and Obi-Wan as well. In general, this clip was a refreshing return to TCW's characteristic action violence. The younglings' story has been more entertaining than I expected, but it's good that it's being tied into and interspersed with the war at large.

    Bring on Saturday.

I usually report when the ratings for the episodes are up on Wikipedia, but I haven’t done it since "The Soft War", so here goes:

"Tipping Points" got a rating of 1.42, which is the lowest rating thus far in s5, but there were a couple of episodes in s4 that was rated lower. Its rating was 0.25 lower than the fourth none premier episode in s4
"The Gathering" got a rating of 1.66, 0.24 better than the previous week, but 0.12 lower than the fifth none premier episode in s4
"A Test of strength" got a rating of 1.74, 0.08 better than the previous week, and 0.18 better than the sixth none premier episode in s4

The first four episodes of the season had higher ratings than their corresponding episodes in s4. So we have had a slight dip in the ratings with "Tipping Points" and "The Gathering", but overall the ratings are still better than last year.

Without Hondo & the Holo-Jedi scenes, that arc would be an EPIC failure.

The Ondo arc was mediocre. It wasn't terrible, just really mediocre.

I like the fact that Ahsoka got some limited character development in that she mostly stuck to her role, it would have been nice for them to get a bit more into the relationship dynamic with Lux et al, since they beat us over the head with it for the first episode. [face_laugh]

I think it helps towards a decision whether the show is renewed or not. The team may be working on S6/S7, it doesn't necessarily mean that CN will choose to broadcast it and renew the broadcasting rights to the show. In that case they'd have to shop around for another network to show it or tie up the story and release it all on DVD.

Gunships do not make an episode good. =b

I gotta honest, I think someone here who shall remain nameless ruined the Onderon arc for me. For whatever reason my lame filter just does not work with those four episodes. I thought the only good thing was the arc matures Ahsoka a little, got her over Lux, and got her to a place where she seems sick of the War and possibly the republic. As for not going into Lux and Ahsoka's little crush, it served its purpose. I'm sad Lux is probably not going to appear again in any decent capacity.

Well........................ they kinda did. They were the catalyst for some awesome moments on Onderon. For me they did. Onderon was saved by Kalani and his gunships.

And I am happy that the gunships are in the next episode with Grievous cause that will remind me of the great Onderon episode they were in.

If the appearance of Gunships is enough to save an entire arc for you, more power to ya, bro. I guess to save that arc I'd need alteast 3 things from my post in the "Let's fix Onderon" thread retconned in.

Onderon was 50% great. Everything after the appearance of Kalani in the hologram at the end of Front Runners was fun and awesome. The Soft War had a great climax during the execution scene and Tipping Points was finally a battle between the Republic and Separatists done right.

If two episodes of Umbara were treated/executed like Massacre and Tipping Points with a little focus on the Separatist bad guys then I would have loved Umbara a little but it was pretty one-sided. I am not a fan of one-sided stories. [face_batting]

I'll give Onderon 25%. The problem with Onderon is it setup what could have been a really complex story, particularly in the 2nd episode. It seemed like the rebels were going to have to work to win the folks of Iziz's trust and then they just blow up the power station and everyone was happy. Its like the writer hit his head half way through writing the script of that episode and killed half his brain cells. It also just tore up HobS. HobS feels worthless now, almost like it was retconned out of existence and its a damn episode in the same damn show. Kalani really didn't do anything the entire arc. All he did was spew a few robotic calculations and shoot the false king. He even got pushed over by the rioting populous at the botched execution like drunk kids were cow tipping him. Tandin (I forgot how to spell that already. lol.) Was a far more interesting character who also didn't go anywhere.

The thing about Umbara is it tells a very specific story about a very specific group of clones and follows them through the entire story. The Umbaran arc does not shy away from the complex question of what it means to be a clone and what it means to think for ones self. It tackles them brilliantly. The C.I.S. side of that story simply wasn't important to what was going on. I get perfectly that your a C.I.S. fanboy and since you didn't get what you wanted you just didn't like Umbara and couldn't be bothered to pay attention to the rest of the story. =b

I do agree. Onderon could have been more complex.

But that was the problem with Umbara - it was too specific and it dealth with a very specific group of clones that are liked by a specific group of fans.
Umbara was not complex. Like what you say about me, the same can be said about you and Umbara. Just cause you are a clone fan makes you love that arc the same way I love Massacre of Tipping points cause it show the CIS being awesome.

And you are WRONG. The fact of the matter is that I did not like Umbara cause it was about a subject that I find boring, it was about a group of clones I hate and it was quite repetitive. It was It did have quite interesting moments like when Krell revealed himself and the awesome centepede tanks from "The General" but that was not enough to make me like it.
It was too focused on just a certain part of fandom that it was hard for those who are not part of that fandom to enjoy it.

But as you noted. I didn't say I disliked Onderon because it had no 501st clones or whatever. I didn't like it because it had the complexity of an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba. Yes I like clones and I like Rex but Umbara's focus was to elaborate on the clones struggles as a whole (the 501st was the example used) and it took 4 episodes of them getting beat into the ground and finally a terrible friendly fire incident to break them out. I don't have time to break the arc down piece by piece at the moment. So IOU. I guess it helps I don't flat out hate any characters enough to where them simply being on screen even for an extended period of time will ruin an arc for me. Its not just the clones I like. I do enjoy Obi-wan and Ventress. I'm not a big Ahsoka fan but I'm curious to see her develop. I'm interested in exploring the tech and the mythos surrounding the Jedi. That is plenty for me in TCW outside the clones. I don't have a real big interesting in the C.I.S. and that's probably TCW's fault for portraying them pretty much like Lord Zedd, Goldar. Monster of the day, and putty patrollers.

I liked Onderon overall and the SW.com featurette on the broader context of the Loyalist rebellions helped me appreciate it slightly more. As Seerow said, it was a disappointment due to the complete lack of effort the rebels needed to exert in order to win popular support and the way the CIS - for all its military might, demonstrated with the gunships' decimation of the rebels - somehow had no support whatsoever. It's good that the Separatists weren't portrayed as complete failures, but wasn't this the planet from which proudly Separatist Senator Mina Bonteri originated? Why is King Sanjay Rash portrayed as an inept tyrant when he sent Padme's BFF and proud idealist Mina to Raxus? Turning the pro-Separatist Onderonians against the CIS would have been a meaningful challenge for the Jedi and the rebels to overcome and could have provided payoff for Lux's talk about winning hearts and minds. Conflict between Lux and Saw could have been made more meaningful by this.

History is filled with examples of populations switching allegiance in a matter of weeks or even days. In 1916, the Irish nationalist rebels attempted to seize power in Dublin and the UK's effort to crush them was widely supported. However, the UK's brutality after this was accomplished turned most of Ireland against the UK, resulting in secession. Just imagine that turn of events being paralleled by TCW on Onderon.

You're right. It was fun and awesome, but still disappointing.

I did explain why I did not like Umbara and I did explain that it is not only cause it lacked something interesting.
I like like 10% of Umbara and that was mainly the Centepedes and Krell. At best.
But it was quite repetetive and that is what I do not like about over pretentious arcs. That is when the show is at it's worst - not having fun but trying to hard with lame messages. IMO
Every episode aside from Carnage was with the same formula and outcome. That is why there is nothing much to break down.
It was about a subject that does not interest me since I do not like Clones. It was executed sloppy with overdoing the emo part of the clones - I do not like when episodes are made up mainly of characters that whine as much as Anakin. That is why I loved Revival and disliked Umbara.
The writing did not help too.
    It was grading...

And yes, TCW are really bad at portraying The CIS and it is a big deal. [face_dancing]

There are a ton of reasons I find Umbara not that good.

Thank you! One more reason - it pandered way too much.

Whereas Ondo was pander free? :p

The funny thing about the show sometimes is where they go dark and where they hold back.

I realize its SW so there has to be the kind of adventure element, but if I had written the arc, it would have been much more grim.

Given Collins wrote for The Wire, I wonder how much the script changed from his original version.
