I agree, but I'm saying Disney is likely to be gun-shy at the moment because of it.

Brad Bird is an option because of his success with MI:4, but anyone who hasn't done and succeeded with at least one... I think Disney will not be on board with for the time being.

Miller said that is Vaughen dropped out, but Miller also contributed the rumour by saying that Vaughen would be awesome as director. Could mean that Miller thinks he is a real or contender or just adding fuel to the fire.

Lindeolf said this on the OT laserdisc??? What is that about?

Well, Disney have a say I'm sure but the the final say is Kathleen Kennedy.

And Star Wars will bums on seats no matter who is writing or directing so the requirement is box office pull but the ability to take charge of a big production.

I really hope it's Duncan Jones. BTW, is Duncan Jones also busy or could he make Star Wars?

If Vaughn & Brad Bird can't do it, I think Duncan Jones or Edgar Wright would be good choices.

That or Frank Darabont. I know he's older but he has a good relationship with Lucas and he's done some great movies.

Pretty sure that Kathleen has a lot of input for the directorial position.

Darabont had a falling out with Lucas over the script for Indy 4.

Maybe so, but Lucas isn't in charge of this anymore.

I haven't noticed if anyone has said Neil Burger.

I really like the idea of Duncan Jones as well.

I just thought of someone else. Kerry Conran who directed Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. That movie had a very Star Wars feel to it and of course used a lot of blue-screen so he's used to that type of filmmaking.

However, he hasn't done any other films besides that one and that was in 2004, so I'm not sure if his next foray into filmmaking should be to jump right into something as big as Star Wars. :p

Plus that movie was also distinctly meh.

It is though also an interesting reminder of the problems of acting in a film that is almost entirely blue-screen, even the best actors need something to actually act with.

According to EW Brad Bird, Speilberg, and JJ Abrams are the only ones on the shirt list.

Pretty sure JJ and Speilberg turned it down, and Brad Bird is already committed to 1947

I'm pretty sure Disney will treat Lucasfilm as they treat Marvel & Pixar, which means they will leave the company alone to make the films the way they think is best and won't have a big hand in the making of them (except throwing money around).

I agree 100%. The Marvel/Pixar analogy is a great comparison. Disney will use their massive marketing reach and vault full of $$$, but the Lucasfilm team (Kennedy, whomever the director is, and some input from GL himself) will have creative control. Why else would KK leave her own production company to take over Lucasfilm if she just had to answer to suits like most of the rest of Hollywood does?

I agree but this is going to be the most anticipated movie of all time. Disney might make more decisions because of this. They want to get this right.

Lindeolf on the Howard Stern show Geektime swore on his "Original trilogy laserdisc collection" that he's not writing Star Wars and the sci-f project he's doing with Brad Bird for Disney is not Star Wars
