1) M dying. Y'know, she was an older lady. Maybe her wound was severe, maybe it wasn't. But as a senior citizen, she wouldn't have the same stamina and constitution to endure the shock and prolongued blood loss as that of a younger person in the same conditon.

2) SIlva's motive was very well laid out when he was "captured". He gave a solid explanation of it both to M and Bond: M betrayed him by giving him up to the Chinese government in exchange for seven or so captured agents. The bad he was a bad seed made that decision easier for her I guess.

3) Don't blame the screenwriters for Bond's home being called Skyfall. IIRC, Fleming came up with the name (Skyfall Lodge). As for why Bond didn't care about it being blown up, he said it himself: he always hated the place.

Now what I didin't get is how in the actual frak did Bond survive Moneypenny's shot and the fall afterwards. And where was that second gunshot wound afterwards?

1. Well yeah, but my point was that she didn't ever seem to bleed very much in the first place. Certainly not so severely that they couldn't even try rushing her to a hospital.

2. Gave him to the Chinese government? What? When? More explanation? I can now say with certainty that I was asleep.

3. I don't care at all that it got blown up. I just found it odd that it added absolutely nothing to our understanding of James Bond as a character. The Chinese casino or the South American bar were probably more revealing.

2. Just out of curiosity, do you remember a scene where he takes half of his face out of his face? Because that was preeeetty important.

3. I think the story about his response to his parents' death by hiding in the cellar/passage was pretty revealing, actually.

In the movie Silva states that he was M's favourite agent between 1988 and 1996. It was during this period that the film franchise took its longest sabbatical, between License to Kill and GoldenEye.

 

Although Goldeneye came out in 1995, that is a lovely little easter egg if it's intended to roughly line up with that timeframe.

I like how new information and and places are supposed to add to our understanding of a character, especially a character we've already known and loved for 50 years. Like, if it doesn't add to our understanding or develops or reveals some major secret about a character, it's simply a waste of time. I for one enjoyed the little sojourn to Skyfall.

 

Oh come on, Coruscant. One would not expect that going to the main character's childhood home would be interchangeable with any other piece of scenery at an exotic locale.

2. Yes, I remember him taking out his dentures and not really having many teeth yet. It was obviously supposed to represent some awful torture thing, but I was never clear on what that was supposed to be or why it happened. In particular, I couldn't assess a pretty important question: Did he have any legitimate grievance with M, or no?

3. I guess. It came off as a very generic sort of thing to me, though. I mean, what did it really demonstrate? He felt hurt and scared after his parents died? What child wouldn't? That the trauma changed him? Again, is this a surprise? Then again, this is a character that's based around having sex and killing people. Right before he took it out he explained what had happened to cause it. Did you wake up just in time to see him remove it? Did you hear him say anything about the cyanide capsule in his tooth?

Seeing as how cyanide does not make your teeth fall out, and he was being a big weirdo, and he was still alive. I mostly just heard him giggling making Jeff Goldblum noises. Also my sleeping was a dynamic thing, because sometimes I thought I was watching but actually wasn't, so I was moving in and out pretty fluidly.

 

Wocky how long until you reveal you're actually a character in a Spike Jonze film and not a real person?

 

If this were not a Bond movie, people would immediately realize just how awful it is. The cinematographer must use some kind of special lens filter that prevents people from seeing terrible dialogue, unconvincing characters and confused and nonsensical plotlines. Not entirely unlike the Star Wars brand.

 

Not necessarily. People didn't realize how awful The Tree of Life was and it wasn't a Bond movie.

I'm honestly surprised there hasn't already been a Bond villain who clones dinosaurs to fulfill his evil master plan for world domination.

They probably should. I don't think it's a coincidence that the best realized piece of this whole franchise featured tanks cast out of platinum.

 

this movie was pretty reminiscent of that era imo. who knew that removing your top teeth could turn you into a computer generated monster? very strange.

Silva didn't remove dentures; he removed a chunk of his effing skull! Namely a prothesis of his upper jaw and left cheekbone, which is why you get the caved-in face effect.
