There, I said it, deal with it.

ANH is the only be-all-end-all movie.

    Sit on it, Fonzy.

I think fruit gushers are the worst.

Anyone else remember these commercials from the 90s?

I was always disappointed with the syrup:gummie ratio with gushers. Hmmm.

All gushing is bad? Moderation is the key?

Moderation is almost always the key.

Just don't bash gushers too hard. In my experience, it causes juice to spray EVERYWHERE.

    And it makes a mess.

I wish people would stop using the word gusher as if saying good things about something is a bad thing.

Is this some sort of contest?
I'm a Star Wars gusher, myself!

You are confusing the pejorative, "gusher", with "fan".
A gusher is someone who feels the need to validate their appreciation of something by overcompensating while speaking on the virtues of whatever they like. Example:

Fan: ya know, I don't really like ESB.
Gusher: OMG ESB is the greatest of all the Star Wars movies and Kershner singlehandedly made the franchise awesome!!!

either extreme gives me a headache

I prefer reading posts that say "I like the films a lot, however there are some bits I really don't like ie-"

I dislike: I LOOVEE IT ALLL, EVERYTHING IS SO AWESOME!!!! YOU DISLIKE CHARACTER A?? BEGONE HATER

    or:

I HATE IT, EVERYTHING SUCKS, YOU SUCK, THE MUSIC SUCKS, THE CGI SUCKS,

reading fair posts that admit Star Wars while for the most part is enjoyable it isn't some sort of magnum opus is what i like reading and can spend hours doing so.

I have to admit though reading a "basher" post is far more entertaining than reading a "gusher" post, at least for me :p

I don't even consider any of the Star Wars movies to be truly great (sorry, folks, but for that you need outstanding acting and dialogue). Well, maybe ANH for being so groundbreaking and bringing in many disparate elements so masterfully. Saga as a whole hasn't been surpassed yet by any other franchise. I can forgive even some serious flaws for what I see as the most epic modern myth on silver screen. Hopefully, the new trilogy will be less polarizing and will cement Star Wars' status as the best original movie series.

That's probably why some fans choose to bash. They want attention. Just like some journalists.

The best kind of posts on this subject, though - IMO - are those that manage to point out what makes Star Wars great in an insightful way.
None of these films is perfect (how many films are?), but honestly, the flaws don't interest me. I'm not a fan because Star Wars has flaws. I'm a fan because Star Wars is awesome!

I still think that ESB is overrated (by some fans). ;)

Here is my take ANH, it had the oh wow this is amazing factor beyond anything I had seen on film until that point in my life. It was only movie I saw in theater multiple times in 20 years and that was during it's original run.
TESB has the biggest surprise in cinema history. So it's the wow factor VS the surprise factor, and do to no internet you actually did have to wait a few years, to see if Vader was really lying, but you got the sense he wasn't just the way it went down. So by the end of of TESB you are excited and horrified at the same time. TESB rocked your emotions beyond ANH, which ended on a feel good note.

Well, see I knew all the twists and I didn't have to wait a few years for ROTJ so I don't have that sentimental attachment Still great movie, but not perfect as some people claim. Personally, I was disappointed that Empire vs. Rebellion was largely in the background after ANH. ANH has the best plot in all six and also the best in developing both the personal journey and the larger picture of the universe. And the most fun. Here's hoping Arndt will bring it all back in VII.
