It's funny because I have been watching ER again for the dozenth time or something and I'm on season 4 now... but I never see River when I watch Alex Kingston as Elizabeth. I'm probably more likely to see it the other way since she's one of my favorite characters in ER.

I see very little of River in Elizabeth Corday. Likely because that character was almost completely different from River.

Just been re-reading the Tennant debate and the opinions that he's taking backwards steps from being a "serious actor" etc. You do realise that his going backwards started with becoming the Doctor, don't you? It's not something that's happened since.

Personally, I think Casanova is what ruined Tennant's career. The first time he affected that accent, it was game over. @};-

I'd have to say completely Five and Three, with a bit of Seven, an equally large bit of Six, and sprinkles of Ten. I love the sound of my own voice. Take that as you will.

I don't think any of you understand what acting is :p Just because DW is gebre doesn't mean the acting and writing are bad. Brits have a weird notion that something isn't real acting unless it's in a play or costume drama. Bollocks.

Also, Alec Guinness was a fantastic actor and he made his name as a well known comedic actor. And those remain some of his best films.

This is an era where some of the very best dramatic writing and acting is genre. This shouldn't be news.

Please forgive the non sequitur, but I'd kill to see Gabriel Byrne as the Master.

I just want to say David has already done work on Star Wars. He was the voice of a droid for the last two episodes :p

I can respect the dislike of SW.

But if he can get in the movies as a main person it will only benefit him.

Also not that long before the Christmas Special!!!!

Just because being "British" isn't technically a race (I'm going to overlook the fact that suddenly Britain doesn't include Wales and Scotland) doesn't stop what you said from being a gross generalisation.

Happy Turkey Day to all Whovians who celebrate it. Maybe the smell of Turkey will lure the Doctor out of the TARDIS before Christmas.:p

Well I revised from British to English because I didn't think it was fair to slight the Scots or Welsh :p. But holy crap, chill. You really aren't helping counter the stereotype of the English being uptight.

Anyway, regardless of who in what country thinks it, the notion that genre work isn't real acting is ridiculous and outdated.

What a load of crap. I'm not going to sit by and accept any form of generalisation, especially not when it misrepresents my opinion on a matter. Same as I didn't sit by and let people make generalisations about Americans having no attention spans and only enjoying action set-pieces earlier in the thread. (Though that may have been the temp boards, I'm not sure.)

Oh my God, recognize a bit of wryness man. I don't actually think the English are all uptight. But evidently you are. Chill.

So this "weird notion" that all Brits have about acting, that was wryness too? o_O

Perhaps more like "I'll say what I want but don't take anything too seriously".
