The problem with lightsaber duels in the Clone Wars...

..there are seldom any consequences. In the movies, there are always severe consequences; someone dies or gets mutilated. It's part of the reason the movie duels are so thrilling to watch.

I - Qui-Gon and Maul killed
II - Anakin loses an arm, Obi-Wan severely injured
III - Dooku killed, three Jedi killed, Anakin loses legs
IV - Ben killed
V - Luke loses a hand
VI - Vader loses a hand


In The Clone Wars, almost every duel ends with one party escaping. Obviously Anakin, Dooku et al can't be killed off, but there are plenty of characters who could be either injured or killed. It seems a bit silly that every duel during the Clone Wars ends in stale mate, whereas every one before or after involves people getting hurt or killed.

Obviously the producers realised this and so the Savage/Maul/Obi-Wan/Galia showdown in season five has both death and mutilation. About time!

 

Its probably just my bad memory but who can be injured and killed?

Oh man, I'm such a broken record with the whole OCs thing. TCW needs more OC Jedi for there to be someone to hack up in a lightsaber duel. The problem is there just aren't enough characters available to injure and maim. You've got Ahsoka for whom it would be kinda cool to see lose an arm (which is kinda cliche at this point) but you can only do so much to her, she can only die once so that's gotta come last. The clones who TCW loves to play up shock value with but while it bothers me to see one cut staight down the middle Freeza style it probably wouldn't have much impact. Then you got a whole mess of Jedi characters who people really want to see, but lets face it can't die or get maimed in the first place.

 

An arm in one ep, a scar over the eye in the next and in the last a fingernail or two?

Eeth Koth has got to go before III right? Have good 'ol Grievous come in and finish what he started in Season 2.

 

Bah, ignore this post please. I said something but realized it was extremely idiotic so I removed it.

 

Not the fingernails. I've ripped off a few finger nails and that hurts like a mother-- ...anyways. Savage is available to lose limbs because he was an OC. I'm pretty sure they decided to do what they did to Adi because of "Grievous Intrigue" and to setup Obi-wan's personal struggles with Maul this season. Still TCW usually focuses on characters whose fates are already concluded by the moves so, there isn't much wiggle room most of the time.

Also, watch Lair of Grievous and Monster if you want to see "redshirt" Jedi get killed in lightsaber battles.

 

Great example of an OC Jedi in TCW in action. They just need to keep one around long enough to develop into someone who will give me feels when he dies or gets tore up.

The thing that annoys me most with lightsaber duels in the show is, they use the same characters such as Dooku v Anakin which has happened a lot in the show. They had three duels during season 4 alone and neither of them can die so there is no suspense. I would prefer fights such as Eeth Koth and Grievous as we would wonder if Koth was going to die.

Any time Maul, Savage, Ashoka or Ventress are involved in a duel its potentially the end of them, thats a pretty large contigent of the active duelists in the show.

 

Too much green. It must be the new fashion nowadays.

I don't call 3 much of a number. I will be surprised if Ahsoka gets injured in a fight before the finally.

he knows. He's just one of those pissed off people who don't like Maul being alive and GL being contradictory.

 

Anybody.

First, anybody can be injured and put on the sidelines. Why not? Injuries heal.

Secondly, I don't see why they can't kill anyone. They've already thrown continuity out the window several times, I'm not sure why they can't again.

Kill Anakin Skywalker. Why not? Just have him come back in time for ROTS. Maul was killed and came back, I don't see why The Chosen One can't.

Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Yoda, Mace, Palpatine, Dooku.....really, anybody. They're all fair game now.

If it keeps him out of a few episodes, by all means....

 

They have already severely injured both Anakin and Obi-wan atleast once each over the course of the series. I guess TCW could always kill and clone someone back to life, something like that would be genuine surprised, huh?

 

Or the Father could come back as a force ghost and revive said people.

 

I can just hear the chaos now.
