  1. In Memory of LAJ_FETT: Please share your remembrances and condolences HERE

CT Is it true that Lucas originally wanted the end of ROTJ to take place in/around Coruscant?

The symmetry between them is rather obvious, but the editing in ROTJ, especially in the climax battles, was much better then TPM editing.

I was talking about changes from concepts to the final product. Both TPM and ROTJ had some good ideas that were thrown out. ANH is the opposite: the final product is much tighter than what they started production with (wasn't it the third draft?). ROTS also had changes for the better (i.e. Ruminations scene).

"Now, come, my new apprentice, and enjoy the fantastic views from my new window"

Distracting, isn't it? The cold blackness of the space works much better and makes them look isolated from the rest of the world.

No, I'm not - I'm referring to what the filmmakers thought they could pull off while maintaining the suspension of disbelief, as well as not confusing the hell out of the audience by setting such a climax in a setting on far too grand a scale.

Actual military logistics aren't entirely relevant, but when it came to finishing off the trilogy in a satisfactory way, it was far easier to show the Alliance's victory by getting them to simply blow up the massive symbol of Imperial rule than try to occupy it - in which case, it's OK to destroy a battle station, rather than an entire planet.

Very cool. Do it with a selective Mustafar background instead of Coruscant & it might look like what was pictured as happening in the bowels of the Imperial Capital.

While I don't necessarily agree that it's all that distracting, I think there is something to be said for that very real sense of isolation you mention.

But mostly I just like your Palaptine quote. :)

Really like the picture, myself. Coruscant at dusk is always ominous. :p

I'd have loved ditching Endor completely in favour of Coruscant.

I think so, too, artoo. I wish I could take credit for it, guys, but it's not my work. I found it years ago and appreciated it so much that I just had to hang on to it. I'm glad to at least help you enjoy it too. I like it so much because it makes you think of what might have been. The only problem with it is that it makes you think of what might have been. :) And as Darth_Kiryan said, it really makes me want to see it.

Gotta love that art of the thrown room! I'm kinda glad though it wasn't on courascant, though it would have been interesting, to say the least.

Well, if the ending of ROTJ can't be on Coruscant...

...maybe the start of Episode VII will. Gotta show the Rebels take that place sometime. :p

I think you're supposed to forget they were in the Death Star in that picture.
I think you're supposed to forget they were in the Death Star in this picture, lol. By being on Coruscant it's assumed they're not on the space station, unless there's a mega huge docking area for it or something. [face_thinking]

No reason to assume they couldn't have that kind of window other places.

Likewise. I think they even have that window in a few depictions of the Palace in the comics.
