I am about to start writing for Shadow Wars and am wondering how all the rest of you keep track of character traits and how and in what way your character has grown personally? Do you write it down somewhere or do you just remember or what?

I have an excel sheet with my character and everyone elses listed. It includes notes on each to keep up with things as they change, including location, current mission/situation, past events and so forth.

If this were a fanfic I would say I wing it. But I tend to keep track of whats going on better in an RP :p

I have everything down on both my characters. Otherwise I don't remember it all. I also keep records on things like tasks and the like. But I'm a little short on the game overall right now what with most of my files on my old laptop.

Yeah fanfics I just go with the flow and write. Then again my fanfics tend to be short.

Can't Swannie, it is fairly in depth and intensive. Plus I would have to sanitize it of information about Taab that hasn't come out yet.

Out for a bit, time to pick up the kids.

I think I'd set up a simple Database. Excel is reasonable, but a proper Database program gives far more flexibility in search capabiities.

Do you have anything like that on your computer, Swan?

Do you have Works hiding anywhere on there - sometimes it comes bundled with the OS, and it has a simple DB program in it. Have a look in "All Programs" from the START button.

I do not. That's why I had to find a translator program to change the format from weps to the proper one.

Pity - I once did a massive Timekeeping and Payroll system on Lotus Aopproach (all macro driven 'cause I didn't undersand Lotus Script) then integrated it into a successful replacement for a bespoke DOS Invoicing system. One input working. Served the company I was with for nearly eight years. Approach is easy for an absolute beginner -- Access a great deal less so IMHO.

I used Access awhile ago (for a different game, not an RP), but all I have on my PC is excel so that's what I use.

I rarely save more, and then just by adding to my character profile what has happened. Except for the game where I am a co-GM, that one I take a lot more notes on.
