CT Why doesn't Spike TV use the Blu-ray versions of these movies?

The past couple of days, they were showing the OT on Spike TV, and I was surprised that they were using the Blu-ray versions of the movies. They were just using the DVD version!

Why is this? I mean I can understand that maybe they want people to buy the Blu-ray versions, but it's been more than a year since the Blu-rays came out. So what's the hold-up?

I would assume it has to do with the terms of whatever deal they made when they first got the rights to show the movies on tv.

Who would watch SW on a channel with commercials when they're all available on DVD/BR commercial free?

This. A thousand times this. I tried to watch AOTC on Spike. I really did. I do not watch movies bloated to 3 hours because there are commercials destroying any sense of flow, suspense, or excitement.

Well, he's certainly said things that conflict with one another. Because I know that the creative process changes over time, and that memory is very, very fallible, I don't know if I'd say it's "lying," but it is being inconsistent.

The other reason they probably aren't using the BRs is that Spike probably doesn't broadcast in 1080p.

Spike has shown the OT many times before BR so I would assume that they had the DVD versions just lying around and didnt want to spend money on a newer version (Blu-Ray is still pretty expensive)

Good question, but probably simple awnser, they probably need a contract.

Why there's no contract? That's beyond me

I do like Star Wars on Spike, not really as full-movie-watchin but I love marathon weekend where you can just change the channel and, hey, Star Wars! Look, it's the speeder bike chase. I'll watch that. Then move on when the commercial break hits.

My guess would be that they are dealing with whatever has been released theatrically and not by the home releases. So the next time the OT is released in theaters, maybe then...

If GL cared as much as some people claim, he would make Spike show the Blu-Ray versions.
