"Rick is a close friend as well as an extremely talented producer. No matter how impossible I made the task, Rick was able to overcome the challenges," says George Lucas. "In addition to putting together great crews and working miracles with the budget, he was instrumental in helping push filmmaking into the 21st century. He has a larger-than-life personality and made this amazing 20-year journey with him a fun one."

Didn't know Young Indy was the longest sustained location shoot in history. Neato.

It's unfortunate that he is retiring. I would have liked to see his involvement in the ST.

This is such a sweet and reverent article. Too bad it's about to be ruined by five pages of bile and hearsay.

It may be unfair to him, but I associate Rick McCallum entirely with "bad Star Wars". And gushing about how amazing the prequels were.

Ill just say, tapping Kathleen Kennedy to run Lucasfilm instead of McCallum seems like kind of a genius move by Lucas.

Rick McCallum is associated with "bad SW".
Rick Berman is associated with "Bad Star Trek".
    Coincidence?

Yeah, he's crazy, along with the millions of fans worldwide who made the PT mega-blockbusters, ran out to buy the BR box set making it the most successful ever released, and continue to dress as the characters at conventions etc. Weirdos.

You know what else made about as much money as the prequels (if not more)... Twilight and Transformers franchise. All awful movies. $$$ /= quality.

There's a reason virtually nobody is upset that they are making Star Wars that aren't by Lucas. People are relieved.

I think that there has been a mistake in the title of this thread. The title should be, with correction:

    The Official Fatty On Rick

I'm going to miss the guy. Sounds like he was a great producer, plus he was great at hyping us fans up during the prequel years.

I never said I associate Berman with bad Trek. It just seems that most of the Trekkies that I've talked to have hated Rick Berman.

Oh yeah TNG is very good along with First Contact. Generations was decent, and despite the fact that Insurrection took a crap on logic it had some nice scenery and is a guilty pleasure. Nemesis is just dull. I've heard good things about DS9, and Voyager was fairly uneven.

Are these the bad Star Wars movies that actually made me a fan? Please more like that! ;)

I agree with that. Her track record speaks for itself.

Go back and re-read the article, only this time replace the word "producer" with "yes-man" and you get a more humorous and accurate article.

I don't really have anything negative to say about the guy but I do agree he has the rep of being associated with "bad Star Wars".

What evidence? It's just a bunch of flattering quotes from friends and info on what he was involved with in his time at Lucasfilm, which is a bunch of sub-par outings.

Ha ha ha, Okay man, whatever you say. Lemme know when you produce an Emmy Award winning tv series on the scale of YIJ, a re-release 20 years after the fact as successful as the SE, and an epic film trilogy as popular and successful as the PT. What a pathetic "Yes Man"!! :p

I'm not denying the success of the PT, but you're failing to see that it was only a shadow of what it could've been had Lucas been around people who would have challenged him creatively, rather than human parrots like McCallum. He had little to do with any of the success Lucasfilm had, anyone else in film could've done what he did. Good luck on your future en devours in yes-manning, McCallum!
