Last night I was thinking about some of my favorite aspects of Star Wars. One of the things that came to my mind were specially trained groups.

As I thought about several of the groups I found many of them extremely interesting. Some of the groups that came to mind were:

-Stormtroopers (or more specifically Snowtroopers, Biker Scouts, Zero G Troops, Sandtroopers, etc)
    -Imperial TIE Fighter Pilots
-X-wing Pilots (or other Rebel Alliance pilots A-wing, B-wing, Y-wing, etc.)
    -Emperor's Royal Guard
    -Clone Troopers (Republic Commandos, etc.)
    -Blue Guard
    -Rebel Commandos

I left out Jedi because I think they are quite a bit different.

Some of the groups I find most intriguing are:

-Emperor's Royal Guard (Their development from the Blue Guard is interesting and the fact that the all-powerful Emperor thought them worthy to be his personal guard is very intriguing)
-Republic Commandos (I think Karen Traviss has done a great job developing these units in the EU and their skill sets are incredible)
-X-wing pilots (Mostly because of their importance in the history of the universe, their ties to one another, and their reasons for being part of the alliance)

What groups do others find the most intriguing?

I find the noghri very...maybe not intriguing, but in a galaxy full of blasters and lightsabers you have to admit the merit of master assasins that assasinate their targets in close combat with just ordinary knives (they use other long range weaponry, but their main methods regard close combat).
I agree that the EmperorĀ“s Royal Guard is one of the most elite groups in the galaxy. Imagine receiving an intensive Force training without being a Force user yourself. Crimson Empire does an excellent job portraying what a single of these guards can accomplish.

Can't take them seriously after they've lost to freaking teddy bears.

    They're actually interesting, visually.

    Not intriguing, but certainly likable.

I wish we knew more about them. They seem to be mostly decorative in the movies.

    My favorite Star Wars army.

They were kind of useless, weren't they?

There is plenty of information on the royal guard floating around. Noghri are awesome. My favorite specialized group is The Muunilist ten.

I think the X-Wing pilots can be broken up again. Rogue Squadron are specialists in high risk combat missions whereas Wraith Squadron are better in A-Team style situations.

The clone shock troopers, specifically the Coruscant Guard, are beast. Sweet armor.

And I love the armor of the 2nd airborne company. So sick

I've found that armor and equipment really add to my interest with these groups. The Emperor's Royal Guard is visually terrific. The TIE fighter pilots, AT-AT drivers, Imperial Gunners, Snowtroopers, etc. are all incredible visually.

Groups like Rogue Squadron, Wraith Squadron are more intriguing on an individual level. I find them appealing because of who they are rather than just their skills.

The Snow troopers were pretty cool. I think the Scout Troopers had better uniforms in EP3 than EP6. Has anyone ever played the Battlefront games?? I have Battlefront II & I love the Republic army. I love the armor of the Senate Guard/Emperor Guard, but we never got to see those guys in action.
