I surprisingly know enough to laugh throughout that thing, and used to reinact parts while waiting in a doctors office. Cracked my mom up and stymied her that I could do that one second reinacting the Dentist, or childbirth one minute and then be straight faced as the doctor walked in and talk about my symptoms. :p

So (to stay on point) what is everyone's thoughts on Jedi getting married and having families?

Permissiable, but probably something that should be undertaken with some regulation or supportive specialists.

I have a follow-up question. Does the situation change if one has a spouse and kids and THEN becomes a Jedi?

Ooh, I like this one. Glad I'm not a Master yet and have to answer that one quickly.

Although this does come to mind, "He is too old to begin the training."

Age of one coming to the Order has become irrelevant, if it was still a factor then we would not have had a New Jedi Order.

Jedi in the past who don't have families became dark. I can see where the concern lies, Jedi who do have families have to learn to let go of their fear of losing their family in the line of danger otherwise they put themselves into danger of giving into the dark side. This is where Anakin Skywalker failed. He feared of losing Padme and the unborn twins. Palpatine used that weakness against him.

Its up to the individual not to allow someone to use their family against them no matter the outcome.

Considering Kasha is married with children, I'm okay with Jedi having families. She knows her duty no matter the outcome.

My other character Fress Colias had to face these choices in intervention and managed to find the strength through support from friends in the order and eventually talking with a therapist.

Family is obviously a big thing for Danny. That being said, control is still very important. No point in having a family if you are too afraid to lose them (and by extension, pull an Anakin and do lose them)

I think you're more in danger of actually losing them if you do let your fear control you and this is something that a married Jedi has to over come. Otherwise they not only risk losing their family but themselves in the process.

At first glance, I thought this was Twilight. You know, your second favorite movie sega. I was a bit confused then I looked with my glasses on, and realized it was Jaina And Jagged, so you are in the clear ;)

I think the main point about it involving an already married couple is a strong point. Then it becomes an interesting set back because either the experience with the potential Jedi member of the pair changing as they learn to see the galaxy through entirely new eyes. With those changes and possible changes to demeanor and personality that come with usual diligence training to become a Knight over a period of years. . .either the relationship will be stronger through this or will fall apart because of it. Does one Jedi warrant the potential risk of unleashing a Sith with heartbreak again? After all, if one Jedi behaves badely it takes many to make the commoner rethink that that was an exception and not the rule of Jedi.

Family hasn't hit Adalia till late in her life and career. Suddenly she's pushing 40 and she's wondering if she's missing out on life, or a part of life she should have. Being a pilot is everything to her, but is there more? She's married, but she knows the risks of it and the time they spend apart actually helps her deal with the potential for loss, but the loss of a child? She took losing a pilot a few years back very hard and blamed herself when the woman took the risk against orders to save Rebecca_Daniels. She knows Becca lives with worse guilt over this one too.

Form I (High Galactic name = Shii-Cho -- a.k.a. the Determination Form or Way of the Sarlacc):

Evolving out of the time when metal-bladed swords were utilised virtually exclusively, this is the oldest of the Lightsaber Forms. An all-a-rounder (that is, having no particular strengths or weaknesses, although if there is any weakness it will probably be in regard to Lightsaber-to-Lightsaber combat) it is taught today in order to provide a firm foundation to underpin the study (or studies) of more specialised (more modern) Forms. Quite why this Form was named after a static, underground, predator that relies on prey falling into its maw is something of a mystery.

Form II (High Galactic name = Makashi -- a.k.a. the Contention Form or Way of the Ysalamiri):

Very popular during the various Sith Wars, this highly elegant Form (optimised for fighting Lightsaber-wielding opponents but much weaker against those armed with Blasters) fell almost entirely out of favour absent a percieved Sith threat following the Army of Light's self-sacrificial victory on Ruusan. Form II is characterised by speed, balance, footwork, feints and precisely controlled strokes, also by the use of the tip of the blade (not normally considered in other Forms except as a coup-de-grace).

Form III (High Galactic name = Soresu -- a.k.a. the Resiliance Form or Way of the Mynock):

Optimised for fighting Blaster-armed enemies (it is said that twenty to one odds are survivable) and with a good secondary capability against Lightsaber-wielders, this Form is considered the ultimate defensive technique. The only disadvantage is that there is a distinct lack of counterattack options against the latter type of enemy; all the Form III user can really do is tire him/her/them out and wait for an error to be made. A potential knock-on disadvantage is that the Form III user would probably be prevented from coming to the assistance of hard-pressed friends and/or find that his own opposition receives reinforcement.

Form IV (High Galactic name = Ataru -- a.k.a. the Aggression Form or Way of the Hawk Bat):

Constant Force-boosted spins, flips and leaps in a blur of motion characterise this Form, which enables the user to strike from unexpected directions, and (provided the user has a strong connection to, and good stamina in, the Force) appears ideal for Jedi of shorter than average stature. Master Yoda, who used this as his signature Form, was (justifiably, in my view) said to be able to become a "whirlwind of destruction". However, Ataru is best employed in short bursts since it rapidly becomes exausting and only when fighting a single opponent, unless true mastery has been achieved.

Form V (the Perseverence Form or Way of the Krayt Dragon):

There are two related aspects to this Form, bearing the High Galactic names of Shien and Djem So, both more suitable for taller, more physically powerful Jedi and both relying on turning an enemy attack back on itself. These were developed by Soresu Masters to overcome the limited-counterattack-option disadvantage of that form. However the intimidatory and dominatory nature of this Form has led to questions of whether it is really appropriate for Jedi to use, particularly in peacetime.

Shien is the aspect optimised against Blasters, using the incoming fire to either 'return it to sender' (which, at the very least would be disconcerting for the firer) or to deflect it into nearby 'opportunity targets', which can disconcert even Force-using, Lightsaber-armed, opposition!

Djem So is the Lightsaber vs Lightsaber counterpart aspect. Again relying on pure power, it enables a flowing parry to be turned into a powerful counterstrike. This aspect also includes the "Falling Avalanche" overhead strike; which, allegedly, can batter down any defensive guard.

Form VI (High Galactic name = Niman -- a.k.a. the Moderation Form or Way of the Rancor):

Additionally known as the "Diplomats' Form" due to it having found favour with Jedi Consulars, this is said to be an easily-learned amalgam of features from many of the other Forms, creating a balanced and practical result. Some Battlemasters, however, are not in favour of it, considering it insufficiently demanding, despite the incorporation of Force Powers (usually Pull and Push) into some of the moves (a saying from my homeworld "Jack of all trades, Master of none" may be part of their reasoning). Form VI is also interesting as being the foundation stone for the use of twin blades in combat (the Jar'Kai style).

Form VII (High Galactic name = Juyo -- a.k.a. the Ferocity Form or Way of the Vornskr):

Due to the high proportion of practicioners that are recorded to have fallen to the Dark Side, I'm not surprised that the Jedi Council saw fit to severely restrict, if not entirely ban, training both in the original version of this Form and in Master Windu's more recent "Vaapad" variant; both appear more reminiscent of Sith teachings (using anger to boost strength and power) than of the Jedi way. One has to wonder if, had Master Windu survived the events of the night Order 66 was enacted, he would have also eventually succumbed; as both his trainee and his variant's co-creator did.

As to which Form I would like to learn, I would (with the Council's permission) like to study Form II (Makashi) in the first instance. The reason is that I have some experience of metal-blade sword training, which I think could be translated into that Lightsaber Form. I also have an idea that Makashi has by no means been developed to its ultimate level and would like to be part of that process, and/or part of developing a hybrid style based on it.
