this can only be an argument if what is art is subjective. in which case having this argument is stupid.

The existence of glitches is an argument against games' ability to be an artform?

    That's a possible counter argu...JAAAAAAAAAAASOOONNN!

    :p
Heavy Rain isn't the best example for a video game. It's too close to being a movie.

As usual, what a well reasoned and intelligent argument rogue_ten.

I didn't say it was necessarily the best example of a game as art. I don't think there's any such one example. I said that it was an example of what games can create experiencially that films can't.

So, in this discussion, where do games like Microsoft Flight Simulator, or Codemaster's Formula 1 2010/11/12 fit into things?

I agree wholly with the arguments put forward by Tim Schafer and later by Rogue 1.5 but I think you have a hard time arguing the point around pure simulations. And whilst games continue to challenge films for complex and intelligent narrative that doesn't insult the audience (honestly, look at the depth R* put into Grand Theft Auto IV and tell me that movies manage this on balance?) I struggle to see how we could classify simulators in the same vein.

I forgot how bad the voice acting was in that game. Yeah the graphics were really good, but most of the characters sounded like Tommy Wiseau.

I knew that. I mainly didn't like the V.A. because their accents would slip at crucial emotional points. It's not a terrible game. I had fun while playing it. Or watching it.

Someone compaired Modern Military Shooters to shlock...but I have rearly hear Military and Shlock being associated. Is it the simplistic narrative and the "hand holding" I think its called.

I finally own it since it's been released on PS3, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Still, I don't believe in the existence of a 'best' anything for any one medium.

if games are an art form, does that mean game designers like MDickie should be considered creators of Outsider Art?
