I dunno PK, people were terrifically hard on Paul and his records in the immediate aftermath of the Beatles. People didn't know what do with his first three to four records (even though Ram is flat-out one of this best things he's ever recorded) and I don't think he really toured in a big way until Wings started making headway. John and George had much better starts on their solo careers than Paul did.

Extraordinarily limited numbers, I reckon, of £106 tickets - indeed anything 'cheaper' than the top price. Didn't get anywhere near them. We went through the process on Ticketmaster and were offered tickets very near the back for £406 each. Once you've been offered something in a process like that you either have to take it or leave it. No second chance because everything will be gone by the time you get back in. We left it.

I stumbled onto this one late, can't believe I missed it. I've been a fan since a young child and purchased the remasters boxset in 2008. My favourite album has always been Revolver. I have to admit, had the film Magical Mystery Tour not happened and instead just been a film, I think the album would have been remembered amongst their catalogue as one of the finest. There's some great demos from that album on Anthology 2.

I'll assume you're joking? If not, i've never been a subscriber of the whole, "if you're a fan of one, you truly cannot be a fan of the other." ie: Stones v Beatles, Oasis v Blur, 1990s Britpop vs 1960s British invasion etc...

I love them all as much. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Oasis are my top three groups. That confuses many, not sure why because it makes perfect sense to me - I love the music, obsessively. I'm still eagerly awaiting official releases of Now And Then and Carnival Of Light, both of which were intended for the Anthology Trilogy. I think there was also a Harrison penned track but was vetoed by Harrison himself.

Neither Billy nor the others were as involved in making of the Beatles' music and as influential on them as George Martin was - right from the beginning. I'm certain that one of the reasons why the Beatles grew so much musically was Martin and his classical musical education.

 

Bill Preston, at best, was a guest, just like Eric Clapton on the White Album. George Martin on the other hand gave them that "polish". I think the best example would have to be John Lennon's reaction to Strawberry Fields where once the song was recorded, John left the studio expecting it to sound exactly as it was recorded, only to return to the studio after hearing the song on radio and getting into an argument with Martin over just how many layers he had added to it, albeit making it a better song.

 

I second Mar; George Martin was the fifth Beatle.

I am very excited about the biopic! And not just because of Cumberbatch
