This problem has plagued human civilization for millennia. Yet, no one has found a real solution as of yet. Why? I think it is time we admit the truth. People will always have an impulse to take things from one another. These misguided laws attempting to "ban" it only drive thievery underground. Is this really what we want?

You are working on the assumption that stopping robbery is the reason we have laws. We have laws against robbery not to stop robbery, but to clarify what robbery is and the penalties applied to it once it has been used. Laws don't stop crime, laws tell us how to respond to crime.

We should all be armed with guns. Nothing can go wrong with this. :)

I prefer to have an army of indestructible robot guardians who kill anyone that makes any hostile or criminal action. Peace through fear of annihilation.

This is an idiotic song, I have always thought, since the day you all introduced me to it.

ASO referenced it as a favorite song of hers or something, yes. I replied at the time that I didn't know what she was referring to. After the explanation, I commented that it struck me as saying "Imagine there was no economy, because figuring out a system for the delivery of goods and services is too hard." Which is pretty much still my impression at present.

Also, to be clear, "Trapped in the Closet" is terrible, is pretty upfront about that fact, and amuses me because of it.

wocky why is private property necessary for an economy?

It absolutely isn't. But even without private property, there is still an economy. My criticism is not with this fellow's specific proposals. It's that, for the most part, he never bothers to make any. He just cites a whole bunch of "problems" and then shrinks from trying to propose any solution to them, instead preferring to talk about what it would be like if there was nothing to make a problem of in the first place. That's fundamentally pretty lazy.

well its difficult for many people to imagine life without the systems he advocates dismantling. that's why the song is called "imagine", its encouraging you to step outside of your comfort zone in imagining life without oppressive structures we tend to believe, through indoctrination, are indispensable or inevitable

Wasn't/isn't "private property" used to refer to land, capital and means of production rather than just "possessions" in general? I mean, a shirt is a possession but I'm not sure that could be public property.

true but i tend to imagine that he was more precisely referring to private property than "ive got a toothbrush that i use to brush my teeth" type possessions

OR MAYBE IM NOT IMAGINING HARD ENOUGH!?!

"Imagine no private property" would sound pretty awkward in that song.

    Maybe it's a dumb song?

Also, quite honestly, I've lost track of what positions you people are even taking on this whole issue.

no, he definitely meant all possessions, so give up your toothbrush, and use the toothbrush of the state like everybody else.
