I don't remember it and I just saw the whole PT about 3 weeks ago. Course it was dark, night, when he died wasn't it? And he was flying.

I don't think they have ever used the word "Bogan" (dark side), the opposite of "Ashla" (the light side, which incidentally was almost Ahsoka's name in TCW and appears next to a concept drawing of her in the season 1 Blu-ray packaging). Bogan referred to the dark side or to bad things in general like a "bogan harvest."

The name Deak Starkiller or Deak Skywalker.

The concept of the emperor being clad in gold.

"And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as THE SON OF THE SUNS."

In early drafts of ROTJ, when Luke enters the presence of the emperor Obi Wan and Yoda appear with him as force ghosts. This causes the emperor to panic. When he is shooting force lightning at Luke, Obi Wan and Yoda appear as ghost shields in front of Luke, protecting him from the lightning. I can see them doing a similar climax to this using Anakin. Not saying I want this.

Thanks for the reminder! You don't really get the same feel from the movie version as the concept art, but it's definitely been used.

The return of Yoda and Obi-wan in the flesh? From the annotated screenplays: "Yoda's image appears for the first time in the draft. He tells Luke that Ben can no longer help him; his power to stay in the Netherworld has been spent, and he will soon be one with the Force, his identity lost forever. Only Luke can draw him back to the material world."
Also at the end of the movie: "Ben appears in real flesh and blood and is soon followed by an old man, the good Skywalker..." "Yoda suddenly appears as flesh and blood. His stay in the Netherworld has been resolved since Vader has turned to the good side. Yoda also has been able to prevent Vader from becoming one with the force." (he helped Anakin keep his identity). In subsequent drafts only the ghosts appear.
Also: "It was conceivable that Luke could die or turn to the dark side, and if he did, then it would be up to Leia to redeem everybody."

I like the idea, if we are going to go philosophical for this trilogy and do a Whill story, probably exploring Force Ghosts, that we discover what Obi Wan meant by "More powerful than you could ever imagine" Perhaps Luke dies early in VII, the protagonist fights the new evil, when the new evil thinks he has won, the new hero through knowledge given to him from Shaman of the Whills, is able to summon the ghosts of Qui Gon, Yoda, Anakin, Obi Wan, and Luke to his aid. They are seen standing behind him. While not directly in the fight that ensues, it symbolizes that their essence in the Force is being channeled through the new protagonist in the fight...

Like it or not, it is food for thought

I always thought this was pretty clear that Obi-Wan would become a Martyr in the eyes of those who witnessed his death at the hands of the evil Darth Vader. An idea is more powerful than reality sometimes. This was also a theme in Batman Begins -- a symbol is more powerful than a man.

This is true, when I was young I always assumed it was because he was now part of the Force and was with Luke, able to advise him and keep him from turning wrong. Imagine if Anakin had Qui Gon in his ear the whole time...

Oh, I know. I pksted in another thread that the lack of Qui-Gon's influence -- being a father figure -- had alot to do wsith Anakin's fall. Anakin and Obi-Wan were "like brothers." Perhaps the fearful respect for the father was too lacking.

Not really a concept...but the Emperor's underground lava-pit throne room would be a great lair for any villain.

Back in 2000, I read the "drafts" from the mid/early seventies and wrote a list of concepts that had been previous Star Wars movies, and which had not. I ordered the concepts by which movie that I think that it had occurred in.
After I had seen AOTC and ROTS, I updated the list, but only by moving items between headings.

Note that the drafts are really different than the finished films. Each "draft" is very different from the other. GL has only reused concepts from them that he has used to build plotlines with when he wrote the actual scripts for the movies.

Some concepts can be matched between draft and movie, but are slightly different. Then the same concept has appeared again in another movie, but from another angle.
I think that the most interesting concepts are just those concepts, that have appeared in a movie, but somewhat different from the draft. I think that these are likely to appear again in the new trilogy, but from that other angle that is only hinted at in an early "draft".
Unfortunately, I did not realize this when I wrote this list, all those years ago, so I had condensed the description of each item quite a lot and matched names from the original drafts to names that were used in the movies. I have kept a few names, though.

Sorry about it being a little bit unorganised. I had never intended to post it anywhere...

Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace:
    * Ruthless trade barons help replace the Republic with the Empire. (Aug 75)
    * Good people live in a city which is a sparkling oasis with low concrete walls
and great turrets spilling over rooftop gardens.
Palace is in connection with underground military fortress.
This shall be in contrast to the crowded evil capitol. (May 74)
    * A group needs to break in and steal a ship that will take them to safety. (May 73)
The ship is damaged and they need to get down on a near planet.
The group with princess/queen is persued by the sovereign/Darth Sidious.
    * Old powerful Jedi leads young boys and the rest. Master-Apprentice relationship. (May 73)
    * Dying man persuades friend to become "son"'s Jedi teacher. (May 74)
    * There is a need for a power unit for a ship that will take the surviving Jedi
and the Princess (queen) to safety.

Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones:
    * Splendid nightclubs on capitol planet. (May 74)
    * Plaza of the Daders in the capitol city, where the Emperor
speaks to his troops. (May 74)

Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith:
    * Movie begins with large space battle.
    * Starship falling apart, crash landing. (Jan 75)
    * Anakin has a large part in the connections between the
new corrupt senator and the Jedi Council. (May 74)
    * The Jedi-Bendu turn against the new corrupt Emperor. (May 74)
    * The Jedi who interfered with the corrupt Great Senate
were denounced as traitors. (Jan 75)
    * Wars and terrorism grew to the point where citizens
welcomed a police state and the tyrannical Empire
    was formed. (Jan 75)

    Episode 4 - A New Hope:
    * Opening sequence with pursuit. (Jan 75)
    * Two bickering Imperial bureaucrats flee from space fortress which is under attack,
crash land on planet. (May 73) (Jan 75)
    * Beaurucrats/droids captured by scavenging Jawas. (Jan 75)
    * Young son living in harsch climate. Twin suns. (May 74)
    * "Anchorhead". (Jan 75)
    * Farm boy looking for action. (Aug 75)
    * Hero veteran general. (May 74)
    * Story of hero's father having followed veteran on foolish idealistic crusade. (Aug 75)
    * Father-son relationship between young and master Jedi.
Much hardship makes the young man grows and realize
that he has to face his responsibilities.
The Master will then give the apprentice more respect.
His family is killed. (May 74)
    * Cantina: use of "laser" sword for defence. (May 73)
    * Cantina: find pilot for covert transport to friendly planet. (May 74)

systems gives Tarkin power over the fleet. (Aug 75)

    * A young Jedi is taught by an older one. (May 74)
    * Cloud city, mushroom-shaped on large spire, gas planet. (May 74).
    * Boiling lake pit on forest planet. Hero almost falls in,
manages to grab a vine. (May 73)

Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi:
    * Horrible dungeon monster. (Jan 75)
    * Heroes trapped by alien trappers on forest planet (moon). (May 74)
    * Forest battle between furry natives (Wookie/Ewoks) and the Empire.
Primitive attack against Empire outpost. (May 74)
    * Land speeders/jetsticks (horse analogue) on forest planet/moon. (May 73)
    * A man of mostly artificial limbs, sacrifices himself to save his son. (May 74)
    * Empire hot-shot (Vader) turns good. (May 74)

    Now... what is left:
(There may be much more that I have not recognized)

Concepts in May 73 draft that we have not seen yet:
    * Princess is revealed as a demi-god in the end.

Concepts in May 74 draft that we have not seen yet:
    * Rebel infiltrator to the Empire. Trapped, tortured.
The same infiltrator is also the voice of reason for the love
relationship between Leia and Annakin noting their differences
    in rank.
    * Aliens (originally Wookies/Ewoks on forest planet) mounted on
    flying creatures chase heroes.
    * Jedi Master with two children. Sith warrior kills one.
    * Young Jedi apprentice (Anakin?) seduces aide in closet.
    * Hero's loved one is captured.

    The "second draft", January 1975:
    * A surviving Jedi leads rebels. Prophecies of a saviour.
    * Quest to retrieve the "Kiber Crystal" on planet Utapau
    is a significant subplot.
The Kiber Crystal is used to heal a wounded man.
    * Han is merely a cabin boy and fakes a reactor failure
tricking the captain and crew to abandon ship, stealing
    the ship.
    * Monster which is a cross between a spider and a squid
    in the dungeons.
    * Jedis are not only warriors but also priests.
    * Artifical man or a droid has problems holding himself
    together, giving comic relief.

    The "Third Draft", August 1975:
    * All known "Kiber Crystals" are kept in a Sith temple.
It has an intricate alarm system.
Obi-Wan steals one of the crystals.
    * Anakin fell at the battle of "Condawn".
"One of my disciples took the crystal and became the Sith lord".
    * Leia resists the mind probe because she is skilled in
"Sans Sensana" - a kind of mind control. (Obviously influenced by Dune)
    * Chewbacca-like character's background.

    Names:
    Justin, Akira and Bink Valor.
Deak Starkiller. Zara, Oeta, Puck. Son Hhat, Mara Horus.
Cos Da****. Crispin Hoedaack. Clief Oxus.
Boma. Granicius. Townowi. Aquilae. Dai Noga.
    Legions of Lettow.
    Five Fire Rings of Formax.

Awesone job with that list. Kudos!

This could actually be ROTJ when Luke reveals that Leia is his sister and also string in the Force.

There's a lot of interesting concepts that went unsused and i have no doubt that we'll see some of them in evolved manner.

Thanks again for posting that! :)

I feel like Cato Nemodia has a good chance of appearing. If you remember Coruscant was included in the end of the Remastered RotJ... Perhaps some of the battle planets from the Clone Wars are meant to give us a peak into what we will be seeing in EP 7?

I think the way "making it up as he goes along" is used here is misleading. All authors do that, it's called rough drafts of a basic story. It doesn't mean an author-or Lucas-is just making crap up or has no idea what he's doing; it's a natural part of the storytelling process and TBH I'd be suspicious of an author who doesn't change anything with his story. The basic story may or may not change, but the trappings of the story (characters, places, events) almost always do. And yeah-Lucas draws on older ideas alot, as that excellent post above shows, and alot of it was present from pretty early on.
