    - "Not-Khan" still sounds so much mike Patrick Steward!

    - The length of time they stayed on the shot of "Not-Khan" staring back silently, leaving the father's "Who are you?" unanswered was ridiculously long.

    - Also noticed that the alarm sound from the Shuttle is the same siren that can be heard on the Royal Starship after its Shield Generator got hit. Dispatching the Astromech Droids! Makes sense, R2 was in the first ST movie.

    - Spock's "Needs of the few outweigh..." homage felt very much crowbarred into the scene. Even if it's just a quick not to older fans, it just doesn't sound natural to speed up a profound message that really should have the right emphasis and gravitas to it.

    - Spock's almost-Platoon pose at the end was funny.

    - There was so much going on in those nine minutes, I'm now a little dizzy!

Well that's kind of depressing. You know, it wasn't so long ago that even mainstream movies were intelligent and audiences were willing to pay to watch intelligent movies, multiple times even. It's not so much the audience as the "creatives" I think. They're not willing to put the effort in. Also, I think the attitude that we shouldn't expect nuance from a movie is the reason we don't have it. If people started demanding it it would probably come back. But we're probably all too passive about movie going these days for that.

Having watched that...it's superficially fun but on almost every other level it's offensively stupid.

Just watched the new trailer. Not really sure where Joss Whedon is going with this, but I don't like it.

Loved the Bruce Greenwood voice-over. Rest looks typical dumb summer fare, but I'm open to the possibility of it being fun at least.

No, it can't be fun. It has to be bad or else my reputation as the JCC movie expert will be tarnished.

    lol.

Is it so much to ask that a movie be fun and smart? Not like it's never been done before. Repeatedly.

So, Joe Corroney passed along this observation on FB about a still from the trailer that I think everyone just assumed were coffins...

Those are cryo tubes, and the guys with their backs to us? The right side is possibly Cumberbatch, but the guy on the left, particularly his clothing and hair style...

This definitely supports the Cumberbatch-is-Joachim-in-disguise theory, beyond the resemblance.

I don't think very superficial physical differences mean anything, but those cryo-tube things definitely seem to point to Botany Bay. Or it's just another "Space Seed"/WoK reference that's not connected to WoK.

    I don't think they're space coffins either.

So far I've read two theories that I like. The first is that we're looking at a variation on Space Seed, and that perhaps Starfleet destroyed the Botany Bay prisoners. Another is that Cumberbatch is a former Section 31 operative who's had genetic manipulation. The IDW comics have already hinted at the presence of Section 31 in the alternate timeline.

I'm sure it has been posted before, possibly by me, but this should be the first 80 seconds of the new film.

I'm convinced the crashing ship is not the Enterprise (or, if it is, is not the same series of events leading them to be under water in the early part of the film). Lovely shot though.

And, to be fair, the dish design does scream "crash me into stuff". ;)

The part with the two Enterprises was nicely done.
