I'd love to see the muppets go rogue with Gervais style humor, or something in the vein of "Team America World Police." A frog ******* scene a la Book of Mormon.

Ricky did a bit with Elmo on Sesame St a couple years back. Very funny.

I'm not inclined to see it if Gervais is in it. He's not untalented like Russel Brand, but he really should stick to writing stuff and not starring.

examples of good stuff that he's written but not starred in? i mean, he pretty much only writes vehicles for himself that are hard to imagine working without him.

If we get the usua OTT Ricky then I'll be disappointed but if we get Ricky form the Invention of Lying then I'll be reasonably content.

As an actor he's like Jim Carrey for me. OTT Jim can go away but serious or calmer Jim is an excellent actor and I have no issuw with him

Extras could easily have worked without him, the best stuff was the guest stars playing parody versions of themselves. The stuff with Gervais' character was generally dull IMO and could have been portrayed by any other comedy actor.

Gervais was poor in both Night at the Museum movies and in Stardust. I have no desire to see him mess up more hollywood movies, but he can write gags for them if he wants.

I would wager he finds himself a lot funnier than most people find him, as was shown at the Golden Globe Awards a few years back.

WHAT?! The Golden Globes were hilarious, especially when you got to watch all the celebrities be uptight and incapable of laughing at themselves. :p

well yeah, he played the straight man in extras. that was clearly the intent.

can't comment on the night at the museum movies or stardust as they looked terrible and i probably won't ever watch them. also they are the opposite thing of the examples i asked you to provide.

I'm not sure there is anything he's written that he hasn't been in, but he is not the funny part of what little he has done that's amusing.

He generally comes across as a vain egotistic jerk who thinks everyone should appreciate him because he's won lots of awards. He should do more writing and less taking up camera space, and less insulting people to try and get a laugh (especially disabled people).

De Niro dressed in drag in Stardust is funny, Gervais making dumb bird noises is not.

On the topic of Muppet films, A Muppet Christmas Carol is probably one of the greatest filmed versions of the Charles Dickens story (if you can get past the fact it has, you know, *muppets* in it :p).

I just borrowed the Muppet Christmas Carol DVD from my best friend. It's been years since I've seen it and I am going to watch it this season for sure.

Muppet Christmas Carol is great, I hope to watch it again this year.

It's not just some act, it's how he is in real life. I know people who have met the guy and have said as much.
He plays a vain jerk because he is one, hence why all his stuff is about him.

Either way that doesn't make it funny.

I'm sorry you don't have a sense of humour, but you can't blame Ricky for that.

I've got a terrible soft spot for The Muppet Christmas Carol. It's funny, dramatic (at times) and life affirming fare. The film's ghost of Christmas yet to come still freaks me out. :p

I prefer the songs in Muppet Treasure Island, but MCC is a better movie overall.

On a random note: 30 Rock recently had a Kermit cameo at the end of an episode.
