Will there be flashbacks of memories in the new movie?

It'll show some scenes of from the last movies.

Luke would also have dreams and nightmares of his father and mother.

Well Star Wars has never shown flashbacks from other episodes, don't know if they'll start now. Prefer if they didn't.

It’s never been Star Wars' style. Even with a different director, I can't see it ever being used.

Yeah, I hope it's not used. Episode III's dream sequences were as close to a "flashback" as I'd want to get.

Yeah, I'd say "flashforward," if anything, as well... but I think the poster's point is that it's a POV shot of an internal experience one of the characters has. Showing a memory (or something) would be such a POV shot as well.

I think the sound of the Tusken Raiders played when Palpatine says "Remember your mother and the Sand People?" might count as a flashback.

I'd prefer it if they didn't either, but before ROTS I'd have said "no" to Anakin's visions of Padme dying, and I think it was the right choice to show them given their importance to the story. If a flashback is important to the story or a character, so be it... as long as it's not a gratuitous shot of one of the existing movies, but something that happened in a character's past in between the movies.

I can see something like the flashback in "Once Upon a Time in the West" work in a Star Wars setting, given the right conditions/story/character.

Anakin had a few precognitive dreams in the OT, and Luke experienced visions and hallucinations in the OT. I'd be fine with something along those lines in the ST, but flashbacks don't seem to suit Star Wars, IMO. That's what the opening crawl is for. :)

The flashback visions I'm referring to something Metal Gear Solid 4-like.

Flashbacks are only a required set piece to provide the viewer with charachter motivation or a plot point that can't otherwise be shown.
Since it would be safely presumed that 95% of the audience will have already seen Episode 1-6, a flashback would only be necessary to fill the gap between Ep 6 to Ep 7.

I actually would welcome audio flashbacks. Didn't really think of that.

It's not a bad idea, but I fear that it would be overused.

It's an energy field created by all living things, it surrounds us, it penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together, obviously.

If something like this happens, Luke, Leia, Han, Ben Jacen & Anakin might come across some places that their parents and many other Jedi have went through.

Luke has a dream about himself meeting Ewoks and Gungans.
Suddenly he wakes up just as Anakin did from his dream about Padmé dying.
He joins the Dark Side in order to prevent his vision from happening.

I'm afraid that this reference is lost on me.

To your original question, as I hope any "Episode" features, such as the ST will continue in the traditions of I-VI, generally speaking, I'd have to say 'no, thanks." To my mind, the closest any of the films have come to 'flashbacks' are the thematic and visual rhyming techniques that George put to fine use. I find this a much more subtle (and personally, more satisfying) use of hearkening back to prior events.

Flaskbacks are not for people who have not seen the previous episodes.

Flaskbacks are also there to summarize the story for the audience to make sure people are on the same page for where the story is headed. In Dexter, & many shows, they start with flashbacks of what happened last time in earlier episodes of the TV show.
