Well, that brings up an interesting proposition: are we that used to nobodies becoming famous that in order to become somebody you have to violently get their attention?

I'm right now, other than the mother being established as owning the guns involved in the shooting, I'm taking everything said about her with a grain of salt. There's just so many stories right now, it's hard to tell what's fact and what's truth about a lot in regards to her and her son.

heard today that it may have been his mother's decision to have him committed that caused the guy to snap. she was apparently good friends with the school's principal and psychologist.

FBI says he didn't snap, had been planning this for months.

I find Newt Gingrich's comment (shared by many others, sadly) that the principal should have been armed far worse, tbh.

Today one of our customers called from one of these kid's funeral. She kept apologizing for telling me that and hung up crying. I wish there was something that could be said at times like that.

Well, that's exactly what a rational republic should base their Constitutional policy on - the opinions of a grief-stricken pre-pubescent child.

I'm sorry if that sounds heartless, but, well, again, sometimes someone has to be the cooler head that prevails. Someone has to call for a little logos in the middle of a tornado of pathos. Our politics have, for the last dozen years, under both parties, gotten to be more and more based on emotion, and out of all the emotions, especially on fear and grief. Very, very rarely has this led to good long-term policy. Maybe we should back off on that, and think things through more logically and rationally.

Logically, no rational person should want to own a firearm. Logically. Rationally. Logitionally.

Two logical fallacies in just one small sentence:

    1) Unsupported assertion.

    2) The "I am the world*" fallacy.

(*This one is part of a list of logical fallacies and illustrations of them written up by Scott Adams in The Joy of Work. Good, witty stuff.)

Possessing a tool meant only to kill is a hallmark of a homicidal maniac. Gun nuts should be committed, really.

Or someone who means to defend themselves. Or someone who wants to shoot some food - a few pounds of dressed venison can make a serious difference in the lives of some of the rural poor.

So... do you consider the police to be "homicidal maniacs"? They possess these same tools. Or do state-issued costumes somehow magically change mental illness into logic and virtue?

Ah, the medicalization of dissent - the true mark of a fascist. People like you, who threaten to throw people into mental institutions, Stalin-style, for daring to hold political opinions that disagree with yours, are living proof of why we do need a 2nd Amendment.
