Nor anything else by them for that matter. I hear it's something of an acquired taste.

This is a fallacy. Like any other music you either like it or you don't. If you like classic rock and folk they have that but they also play long jazz improv in the live shows. Not every song is 30 minutes long. So if you like bands like Crosby Stills and Nash and you like Miles Davis then you better do yourself a favor and give The Dead a try.

So no one can ever a aquire a taste for music they didn't like at first (what you seemed to say)?

I've always felt like I should give the Dead a chance but just never have. I certainly respect them.

I love the old blues song this is based on but have not heard the Dead song until now.

No. I'm just saying that The Dead aren't some special case or weird as some people assume or imply.

... Can they? I honestly cannot think of any band that I didn't like at first that I managed to enjoy on subsequent listens. Has that not been the case for you?

I think of albums by bands I love that I hated on the first (or the first several) listen(s) that I grew to love.

No doubt. Especially when you're exposed to a new genre you're not used to listening to.

I hated The Beatles on the first listen (to be fair, I was about six, maybe younger), and now I'm a die-hard.

anybody can get into anything. a person just has to find themselves in the work. with some people/types of music, that can take a long time.

yes. i think she's great but i don't really go out of my way to listen to her stuff.

i like how she goes behind the beat in the chorus. or ahead of it. whatever she is doing, it's very cool.

I agree with this... I actually do like her as well, but don't own anything or go out of my way to listen, but what I have heard from her, I like.

plus the control she has over her own voice is immaculate. sharp as a razor. i don't know if there's any studio trickery going on to help her achieve that, but i really hope not.

This made me hit youtube... so I've now heard the song (and I like it). Looks like her voice is genuine... man, she's got serious stage presence, as well.
