Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. Directed by Tony Scott.

    Rubbish.

Finally got around to seeing the Hobbit this weekend. It was okay, but seemed to drag on and on.

    We agree it's excellent! But...

    1) The story of the film centers on the politicians (and their hired hands) who made the 13th Amendment happen. Since there were no black politicians at that time, there are no major characters who happen to be black. There are several supporting roles, far from being "relegated to the background", which despite their brevity are key parts in the film, with several pages of dialogue.

    2) I don't understand the inclination to cut out key scenes.

    1. This article sums it up much better than I can.

    2. There is nothing key about what happens after Lincoln leaves the White House. They could have relegated the assassination to title cards and lost nothing.

    1. I'll read this and get back to you after Christmas!

    2. I'm glad they didn't, for I loathe title cards. And you're neglecting the final speech, which I think is vital to summing up Lincoln's views on Reconstruction, which he didn't live to see but which proceeded under his shadow.

It's superfluous. The film had already said everything that needed to be said.

Quite a trip down memory lane.

Seen The Big Country yet? That is high-wattage Burl.

Or even White Dog, where he bitches about R2-D2.

X2. What an incredible superhero. Along with Spiderman 2, this is definitely best that this sub-genre has ever managed to produce. By comparison, the Avengers-universe films seem incredibly stupid.

I only wish the cribbing from The Wrath of Khan wasn't as overt.

It was good. I'd say if you like Primer and Melancholia you should watch it.

No my wife wanted to see it.

Oh and please stay the hell away from movie theaters today. For my mental healthy sake. The people coming into work today are so angry and mean today. I had some jackass throw his popcorn at me today.

    The Dark Knight Rises

I think it's a lot of fun. And it makes me want to watch the first two of the trilogy again.

    In America (2002)

This was a nice little film, following the lives of a family of Irish immigrants living in Hell's Kitchen. The small cast works great together, and even the one "big" name actor, Djimon Hounsou, does not upstage the leads. It has some great music and is shot pretty well. I found it charming and down-to-earth.

Total Recall. What an exhausting, stupid movie. I don't think I've seen a continuous two hour chase scene before. I don't want to ever again.

You know that Chatterbox movie The Cinema Snob reviewed? The one about a talking vagina? I discovered it's on my cable's OnDemand last night, and watched a bit of it. I couldn't stomach much more than like 30-40 minutes of it before I had to turn it off, because it was so stupid. I don't know how Brad Jones can stand to watch such cinematic dren.

Arthur Christmas. Loved it. Probably going to watch it every Christmas from now on. Bill Nighy steals the show anytime his character appears, and I had no idea James McAvoy had so much energy. Another hit for Aardman Studios.

This Is 40, I thought it was funny and realistic. Some parts of it I can directly relate to my childhood and how my parents acted. Not Apatow's best but it was good.

The day I left the psyche ward, they were going to be showing this movie in one of the lounges. Seriously.
