The gray and brown ranges are basically where you're going to want to be. Charcoal gray would look a little more formal or conservative; lighter grays would have more contrast. Khakis all the way to darker brown trousers also work, and can have different effects. I'd recommend googling various combinations -- "navy blazer khakis," "navy blazer gray pants," etc -- and see what appeals to you.

Edit: the rule is that the tip hits the belt, not the widest part. You'll see plenty of people wearing ties both shorter and longer, but the tip at the belt gives you the best look.

Whatever. I'm not arguing about where your tie should land. I've read the tip can land past the belt, not that it has to; personally my tie usually ends on the upper half of the belt.

But . . . this is the internet! If two people don't agree about something, it has to result in a pointless, lengthy argument!

I don't mean to make an argument out of it anyway. Nobody's checking for exact precision, and the tip being half an inch past the belt is better than being half an inch above it -- I'm just saying that the rule I'm familiar with (and in my observation agree with) is that the tip is ideally on the belt.

I agree that in an ideal world every tip is on the belt, but instead of saying that, since this is the internet, I will call you a name and question your intelligence, as is tradition.

I was at my aunt's house earlier today to help in the making of Christmas cookies (a facet of Christmas that I still very much enjoy), and I snapped a photo of my one my favorite, if not my favorite collage up at my aunt's house: 45+ years of family Christmas celebrations (I'm in a few photos on the left & right bottom side... I'm about 4-7 years in some of those pictures). Even as bitter as I can get at this time of year, seeing this collage always warms my heart.

That's right across the harbor from where the first shots of the US Civil War were fired. We had to have impressive cannons to blow the damn Yankees away when they were trying to bring us supplies. (Oh, wait...)

While it is fairly warm in Charleston (being as far south as it as and at sea-level), those trees are live oak and palm. They're green year round anyway. ;)

Well, I posted this picture of me over in the "post a pic of your pets" thread, so I guess I can share it here too. :p

This is me 6 years ago when I was 17, the day I graduated from high school (school colors were purple and gold :p ).

It's also the last picture I have of me with our dog Binko, she passed away a week later, the day after I turned 18. :(
