"Star Wars and History" is probably one of the most wasted Star Wars book projects ever. Instead of actually asking and quoting George on what inspired this and that, they made a book with comparisons based on assumptions and speculation.

Well, Star Wars does rely on a lot of historical cliches and assumptions . . . basically everything that happens has some historical parallels.

    I AM THE SENATE =

    I AM THE STATE

    ---

clearest use of historical context in the whole thing,

otherwise I don't see much comparrison to it at all,

a cult who dislikes another..cult takes over the universe and makes big planet destroying laser beam

hasn't happened in any period of history as far as i know

What a cult disliking another? Replace cult with religion or political party. Havent seen the big planet destroying laser beam just yet, though. ;)

Well, they have political and social power. Just not a gigantic battle station that could blow up your planet with a single thought. At least I hope not. [face_hypnotized]

If you watch a deleted scene in Revenge of the Sith Lucas clearly states reading about the French Revolution as an inspiration for the scene where Mon Mothma, Bail Organa start forming the rebel alliance. Storm troopers of Nazi Germany had to come into mind for Lucas too.

    :-B The 1789 french revolution?

If so, we might see the New Republic abuse their power and start executing anyone with ties to the Empire in Episode 7.

Yeah, the French Revolution made quite the global impact...

    BTW

"I am the State"/ "L'état c'est moi"- is something Louis XIV supposedly said the 13 april 1655 before the parisian parliment, as an act of defiance against some edicts created the 20th of march, 1655. However, historians dispute whether this phrase was ever really spoken by Louis XIV.

The French Revolution did have a tremendous global impact. Unless you were being sarcastic. Which you could have been but there's no button for sarcasm
